Jen615 –
this maybe the best fretless I’ve yet owned…neck action, feel, tone, etc…Glad I now own one
The best “fretless tone” is found in the piezo-pickup. It is amazing to me, and I learned bass on an upright…
I’m not saying this sounds exactly like an acoustic bass but, for the electric sound, I love it

If you’re anything like me, you’re here because you had a thought in the back of your mind that started to grow: ‘one day I’m going to free myself of my semitone chains.’
So here you are, considering a fretless bass with no lines facing the audience, no rules and a thousand dollar price tag. Is it possible to make good music on this? Is it worth the money? Am I really ready?
I took the plunge a month ago, and it’s one of the best musical decisions I ever made. I’ve been invited to studio recordings for the first time ever. The first was to play Brubeck’s ‘Take 5’ with a grand piano and alto sax. Others have followed.
The price for microtonal freedom is accuracy, but it’s not as hard as you might think. Meanwhile be prepared for finesse, a growling bite, sound options for bridge and neck pick-ups, tight action (speed is king) and a Piezo system that will get you sound somewhere between electric and stand up.
Watch some video reviews, let the side dots be your first guide and prepare your heart for the great wide smile of a lifetime. The Ibanez SRF700 is the real deal.
Jeff Hardin –
super light, great playing “fretboard”, and a ton of tone options from the 3 pickups. unless you need five strings or are looking for a very specific (fretted) sound, you’ll never need another bass
