Amazing little speakers. Very full and rich sound for their size. I was pleasantly surprised. They have treble and bass control switches on the back, which is nice because you can get a richer sound. Too bad the controls weren’t on the front. I run them with a usb DAC and a pre-amp though, so your mileage may vary, depending on your setup. I recommend raising the speakers to ear height for the best sound. This is the third pair of M-Audio speakers I’ve owned over the years. Unfortunately, they don’t last forever. Hopefully these will last longer than the last ones I had, which lasted about 5 or 6 years.

It is sturdy, easy to connect, LOUD, good for amateur DJs likes myself to finesse our skills. I LOVE it!
It can easily ROCK a house party. If you had a mini controller and these speakers, you could pack some real heat!!!

When I received my M-Audio BX3 3.5″ Studio Monitors last week, I was surprised that I could not turn the volume control down to zero — there was ALWAYS sound coming out UNLESS the speaker set was turned completely “Off.”
I did numerous tests, eliminated the possibility of grounding issues, and returned them to Amazon for exchange, thinking there was a manufacturing issue.
I received the replacement set today. IT DOES THE SAME THING! Unbelievable that they were designed so you could never turn the volume all the way down to zero. The issue for me is that I use these with my livestreaming setup, and my mic is nearby.
I need to be able to run the speakers at a low level so I can still hear sound effects, bumper music, and video interview playback without having any ringing or feedback from my mic.
The problem is that the lowest volume level is still too loud. It would be like, if the volume on a normal set of speakers could be adjusted from 100 at the highest to 0 at the lowest, the lowest on the M-Audio speakers would always be a “10” or “15”.
I really wanted to love these speakers. I’ve had M-Audio brand speakers before. But I have no choice other than to send this second set back for refund and shop for another brand. Maybe this design problem isn’t an issue for you, but in my view, the lowest possible volume level is still too loud for a number of common situations.

One of my older studio monitors bit the dust and these were a great replacement.

Looks great
Sounds fantastic! Well balanced sound with surprisingly good bass response. Was not looking for heavy bass and based on other reviews was expecting mediocre bass, but it’s pretty dang good!
I got these for mixing in Logic, and have had only a small amount of time doing so. Enough to know what a massive upgrade these are. Treble, mid, bass – all amazingly clean and clear. When you position these just right the sound seems to envelop you. Clear channel separation and yet it just surrounds you.
I don’t have other ref monitors to compare with. I can only say that these are quite impressive- especially for this price point.

OK, keep your expectations in check here. These are inexpensive nearfield monitors, and I wouldn’t recommend them for a real project studio or above (as in if you’re recording a band, doing mastering, etc.). But for my “Studio C” – used for product development, engineering, testing, and etc., they are just fine, perhaps for the simple reason that I didn’t have space for larger monitors in this location. Nonetheless, sound quality is very good, as is imaging, and they actually had too much bass in the center EQ position (on the back) – having to reduce the bass on such tiny woofers was surprising. I also boosted the treble a little, which suits my ears. Anyway, nice monitors for the price. If you need larger nearfield monitors, I would consider the next models up in this line. For “real” monitors, though, you’re looking at many times the price, and such may be required (I use JBLs, Yamahas, and Tannoys for this case – again a lot more bucks involved). But for the price of a decent PC-class speaker set, you could do much worse than the BX4s. I know, I’ve tried.
BTW – nicely packaged! Double boxed, great packing, and the required cables are included.
