SAMSUNG 75-Inch Neo QLED 8K TV (QN75QN800BFXZA)

When the TV is off the screen looks huge. When the TV is on, it looks big but after a few days it looks like any other TV. The unit was delivered in perfect condition and mouniting the electronics to the wall was quick and easy. The 8K looks great.

We were very excited to receive the 85″ 800B just in time for my birthday. I thought that for $2500 and $130 in points from Bbuy, I probably couldn’t go wrong ordering this previous 2022 model in Nov 2023, I expected it to be old stock from last year. I did a double take when I saw the Sept 2023 manufacturer sticker. Why would they still be making 800B’s at this point? 🤯
I ended up setting it up on my own after working 10 hrs because everyone else in the household works days right now.
It is a solid chore to unearth this beast from its packing.
I have only watched a bit of Hulu so far so I’ll need to stream some true 8K and 4K content from Rumble or YouTube before I can really see what this TV can do.
Out of the box the settings are decent enough for the moment.
I was trying to figure out if I could do the cell phone calibration from Moto G. I don’t want to add any more apps to my phone.
Apparently you have to register the device and download smart things app then give it pinpoint GPS data from your phone and a couple of other hoops before it will actually try to calibrate the TV . That’s just more personal information and hoop jumping than I wanted to go thru, so I’ll just look around for some manual calibration tips on avforum.
It includes 3 packs of screws, instead of one large packet. All screws are 4mmx12mm. Easy to lose tiny packages… I did lose a pack. Lowes only had 16mm in stock (even though 12 mm showed in stock online) which I managed to make work between the TV mount and base mount. Other locations were too shallow for the longer screws.
The one connect box is IMO nothing but a PITA. It’s supposed to “sit” on this notch in back of the freaky TV stand. But it just keeps falling off whenever you have to adjust something and it’s heavy for its size. I Do like the fact that it is a center stand but I have my doubts about the 4 mm screws being adequate over time.
The system startup is so vague and cumbersome. It took over an hour to get to the main menu. Tried internet setup which kept hanging over and over and over.
Finally decided to just use the remote. Still it’s asking questions that don’t make any sense. I’ll figure that out later.
The remote is one of the worst designed remotes on the market. I can’t believe, with so many decades of design, Samsung settled on THIS remote have already ordered an old style remote from amazon, which if it works, I’ll notate it here, for those that are not so fond of navigating layers of menus to accomplish simple tasks. (In UK, they actually ship this TV with BOTH style remotes. Lucky blokes!)
The buttons are all on top, barely discernible from one another. The volume control is difficult to use with hairpin up/down but also push modes.🤯
When I finally got something streaming,
I soon picked up the remote upside down. Instead of adjusting volume, it changed the channel???
I’m streaming Hulu, there is NO channel! So it decided to just boot me out of Hulu and into some samsing TV stream. OMG.
Then I had to find my way back to the menu, back to Hulu, sign in again, queue up my show again, watch the commercials AGAIN, just to get back where I was 5 minutes earlier. Hate it!
Further, it shouldn’t take multiple videos and research to figure out how to customize the home screen and set up hdmi ports.
Apparently you can’t even access hdmi ports unless something is plugged into them?? Still figuring that out as well.
ROKU and Firestick are Soo so easy compared to this. It’s a LOT harder than it should be.
Overall, The hardware seems fine. I’m not using any external sound gear in my small apt. (and I honestly wish my neighbors would dump their 15″ subwoofer as well). I think the unfriendly user interface is the actual biggest drawback of the Samsung line. As bad as googleTV is, Samsung managed to FAIL harder!
If I had it to do over again,
I might take a chance on a Sony 8K and see what their user interface is like.
I’m tempted to grade this at 3 stars, but the hardware is just so great, I hate to ding it too hard, so it’s a 4.
UPDATE: After receiving the BN59-01315A remote, $8 from Amazon (thank you!), this TV is a much friendlier experience.
We no longer have to go to menus to switch HDMI ports.
This remote (the “A” suffix) includes a Guide button to jump right into OTA TV. I’m also now able to enter channel numbers directly instead of scrolling thru hundreds of useless Samsung streaming garbage.
Moving apps is still a pain. Why they decided to differentiate between short press and long press to perform different actions is a mindbender.
The only downside so far is that this an infrared only remote, not wireless. I have to remember to aim at the bottom right corner of this huge TV to get reliable response.
The “smart” remote has been relegated to the storage drawer, just in case, as much as I wanted to throw it in the garbage.

Picture quality is fantastic, my previous TV was a Samsung 75″, the monitor was great, the connect one box is what went bad, and I couldn’t find one to replace it, I even tried Samsung’s web site and Ebay, but both were out of stock, so I bought this 85″, 8K TV. The picture quality is even better than the old TV and colors are bright and vibrant. I am very happy with the picture. Also, I got the free deluxe delivery, and so glad I did, since they called prior to getting to the house and brought the TV inside, unpacked it, put the base together and placed the TV in the spot where it will sit. I couldn’t have done it myself, since it is too big and bulky for one person. The only problem was, on this model, the one connect box mounts on the back of the TV base, at a 45 degree angle, but it would not stay there, and there are no clips to hold it in place. I even called Samsung support and after getting another number to call, and being transferred a couple of times I finally got back to the original number, and got to a tech, who told me how it should be mounted. But, it still did not work, so I used Velcro straps to go around the one connect box and the TV base, to hold it in place. According to the instructions, you can mount the one connect box on the back of the TV, but that is ONLY when you are wall mounting the TV. Mine sits on a TV stand.

The sound sucks. There seems to be low tones that cause vibrations and rattles but, other reviews have pointed this out, so I was already aware of this problem, so it was no surprise. It is like when you are driving down the road and someone has a sound system in their car that causes their license plate and other items to rattle. So, I have purchased a sound bar to compensate, and I will go into settings and turn off the internal speakers, and only use the sound bar. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Samsung has been notified by other individuals who experienced the same problem and Samsung reply back that they are looking into it and will probably have a firmware upgrade as a fix for the problem. I don’t think a firmware upgrade will solve the problem, I think it is a design issue with speaker placement. Only problem is that I ordered the Samsung HW-B650 sound bar, via Amazon on 11/29/22, and it won’t get delivered until 1/13-15/23. And that is a prime purchase. Glad it wasn’t a non-prime item.
