Seriously, my first experience with this headset was listening to some bass heavy tracks and I couldn’t stop giggling. Whether it was the Mellen Gi & Tommee Profitt Remix of In the End or ambient Skyrim thunderstorms, this headset just flat out impressed me.
The base ‘flat EQ’ sound profile is fairly middle heavy. A custom EQ curve will go a long way to getting the sound that is right for you, but the Movie profile is what I chose initially, and it is pretty close to what I tend to prefer. The V4 Pro have a very dynamic sound in that they can produce deep bass and upper treble in a very natural way, and it never sounds forced, at least to my ears.
These are the first headphones I’ve experienced with haptics, and I think I’m already spoiled. I thought at first this would be like rumble in a controller and in a way, it is, but it is also so much more. This is the equivalent to transducers or Bass Shakers in a home theater or sim rig. They add so much to the existing experience. My preference was to set the haptics to Controlled for general use and some games while a few games benefitted from Balanced. This is the thing that sets the V4 Pro above other gaming headsets for me.
Construction is also top notch. Metal joints feel so much better than plastic. The headband and earcups are on the firmer side, but very comfortable. The earcups also provide a great seal, so while there isn’t any active noise canceling here, the isolation provided is still quite good. There is a definite weight felt with the headset in hand as it is not light, but it is well distributed and while wearing them I had no issues with fatigue or clamping force. Just an all-over premium feeling build.
The RGB lighting is a thing I won’t be using, only because I favor battery life. The lighting itself is tastefully done and plenty customizable, so if that is your thing, by all means, enjoy it.
The hub is both awesome and the only con I can think of. It allows pretty much full control of everything headset related within arm’s reach without needing to open up the Synapse interface. Useability is a bit daunting at first due to how much you can control, but it is all laid out fairly sensibly. The hub’s construction is also top tier. The display is easily readable, fun to customize, though I do wish it was color. The downside of the hub is that this is your connection point. If you want to connect both your console and PC, they both connect to the hub. Other dual connection headsets I’ve tried use a dual dongle approach which allowed me to connect my PS4 and PC which are in different rooms.
The ability to simultaneously listen to bluetooth and 2.4GHz (iPhone and PC for me) audio worked seamlessly. And switching between them also worked flawlessly.
And finally, Synapse 4 software. I stopped using Synapse and Razer accessories around when Synapse 2 came out. I hated it and felt it was inferior compared to Logitech Gaming Software. Now, the tables are reversed. I can’t stand Logitech’s GHub and now Synapse 4 is actually not terrible to use. Compared to GHub, it is mostly intuitive and unobtrusive.
Look, I know…$400 is a lot and a lot will depend on what you want. Is the Kraken V4 Pro competitive compared to a set of $400 headphones, like Air Pods Max or Sony WH-1000XM5? If you want ANC, Transparency or spatial audio with headtracking…. then no, you won’t find that here. If you want gaming features, multiple connection options with simultaneous BT+2.4GHz streaming and most importantly, haptics then the V4 Pro has it. Seriously, the haptics for me are what set this headset apart from similarly priced headphones. The V4 Pro has everything I want for my in-home gaming and media consumption, be it movies or music.

I recently got my hands on this headset, and it’s been quite the experience. Right out of the box, it comes with an OLED control hub, the wireless headset with haptics, three cables, and a sleek black drawstring bag.
First off, the headset design is pretty impressive. It features an LED backlight/status indicator, a haptics button to adjust intensity or turn it off, and a multifunction button for mode switching, Bluetooth pairing, and audio EQ settings. The retractable mic is a nice touch, and I appreciate the different textures on the power button, volume control wheel, and mic mute button. It makes it so much easier to find the right control without having to look, especially during intense gaming sessions.
The audio EQ lets you switch between different profiles like game, movie, music, and custom settings. The headset is comfortable to wear, even with glasses, and the mic works well for in-game communication.
However, I have to mention the manual. It’s a single, multi-folded piece of black paper with gray lettering, and it’s honestly a pain to read. The mixed languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese) all crammed together make it confusing. They were going for a cool, minimalist vibe, but it just complicates the initial setup. I had to go through a lot of trial and error to figure out how to switch between Bluetooth mode, simultaneously USB + Bluetooth mode, and Hyperspeed.
The THX spatial audio (7.1 surround sound) is only available on PC because it requires the Razer Synapse software. Speaking of which, the software itself needs some work. It crashes occasionally, which is pretty annoying. Also, the haptics feature is currently only compatible with a handful of games—just five at the moment—and none of them are games I play. I tried the haptics with some videos, and while it’s an interesting concept, I’m not entirely sold on it yet.
The OLED control hub is a standout feature. It can connect to your PC, console, and aux simultaneously, allowing you to switch your headset audio between devices seamlessly. The hub displays your headset’s status and settings like volume, connectivity, and battery life. You can also adjust settings directly from the hub and customize the home screen with animations, images, emotes, and text banners. The quick access button and big knob make navigation a breeze.
Unfortunately, I have an Xbox Series X, which doesn’t allow pairing with Bluetooth headsets—a Microsoft issue, not Razer’s fault. I had to connect via the aux input on the control hub and use Bluetooth to connect to my PC to get both Xbox and PC audio simultaneously. Once set up, having PC and console audio at the same time is pretty amazing!
Overall, it’s a comfortable headset with some fantastic features, but there are areas that need improvement. The manual could be more user-friendly, the software needs stability fixes, and the haptics feature would benefit from broader game compatibility. It does come with a 2-year warranty, so I’m hopeful it will hold up over time.
