Warum kauft man einen USB 3.0 auf HDMI-Adapter mit HDMI 1.4? Weil nur USB 3.0 und HDMI 1.4 eine besonders hohe Datenrate für besonders hohe Datenströme von den üblicherweise einzigen Medien ermöglichen, die so etwas brauchen: UHD-Videos bzw. 3D-Videos! Nur solche Videos brauchen höchste Datenmengen. Genau solche Medien gibt es fast nur auf bluray und zwar KOPIERGESCHÜTZT! Und dieser Adapter unterstützt den Kopierschutz nicht! Also kann man ihn gar nicht benutzen. Aua.

I bought this product for my new ultra book that did not come with a DVD drive. I made several attempts to install the drivers for this product from the manufacturer’s website but I was unsuccessful in doing so. A few days later, I purchased a DVD drive and installed the drivers from the included CD and the product has been working fine since (knock on wood).
I would have given this product a higher rating if I was able to successfully install the drivers from the Internet. I view this as critical for a product like this since laptops that don’t have Ethernet ports typically don’t have DVD drives either.

The driver for it on the Belkin website is the wrong driver. It is labeled as the Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, but it is actually for some wireless device. I wasn’t paying attention when I installed the driver, so now the Wireless icon in the Windows icon tray always shows that I have no signal, even when I have a connection. This happens even though I have uninstalled the Belkin wireless driver.
After some investigation, I have found that others have had this problem for some time and determined that Belkin is ignorant of the mislabeled driver. I gave feedback to Belkin about the problem a while ago, and still they are posting the wrong driver. If they don’t care, people should avoid Belkin products.
When it works, it works well, but it doesn’t always work. It is always recognized the first time it is plugged in after booting the system. However, after the system goes to sleep, even just 1 time, unplugging it and plugging it back it may or may not work.
I am using it with a MacBook Pro retina 13.

No problem plugging in and using. Worked straight away and is very reliable. USB part is very short so I had to use a USB extender – which I had available. Previous adaptor was unreliable and eventually failed. Worth the extra cost to connect my wifi laptop to the wired network, for better quality internet work.

I would give 5 stars if the driver provided on Belkin’s website does support latest MacOS 10.9 and 10.10. To get this adapter working with latest versions of MacOS, just search in Google for “ax88179” and most probably the first result will be the website of the chip manufacturer “Asix” where you will get your driver.

Works out of the box on Linux (Fedora 20), so far without a hitch. I almost docked a star because it seems much bigger in person than the pictures seem to indicate, but since it works so flawlessly, it keeps all 5 stars.

I had some troubles to get the correct driver, my machine do not have a CD drive so I downloaded the one on Belkin page and it was incorrect, so i had to connect an external DVD to be able to use the one provided on the CD. After this it is faster than the one provided by Asus.
