I have been using Avast for about 3 years now and had a good experience until a few weeks ago. They changed the interface and along with it some settings have been changed and now I’m unable to surf the net with the Webshield engage on my Windows 7 system. So I have to disengage the webshield so that my browser will work. I use two computers. One computer I did not upgrade and that surfs the net fine with the old version. But the other computer wont’ surf with this latest version. I did contact Avast for help on this and they said “Disable the component you have problem with. Avast technicians are working on the issue and the fix will be hopefully released in the next program update. Well upon downloading the latests program update (jan 22 2014) and that not fix the problem. Also upon taking the advice on the forum that didn’t work either. I tried several other suggestions I found on the net, but none of those worked either. I understand that the program should still catch any virus without the webshield enabled. I hope so, but I dont’ think I can renew my subscription with it’s up. I wish I could push this thing back to the old version.

I purchased avast! based on my brother’s recommendation; He’s a big fan of the interface and the boot scan feature. After downloading the file, I ran into an error message (557) during installation. I tried downloading it again from amazon, and then directly from avast, but kept getting the same error message. Frustrated, I contacted amazon, who sent me to avast. Fast forward a bit, the avast tech is remotely controlling my pc so that he can see the issue for himself. He looked up “critical errors” and things like that on my computer, and concluded that the errors needed to be fixed before avast could be installed. He then said “Do you have any friends or family who are microsoft engineers?” I’m thinking to myself “umm… of coarse not!”. So he says “Not a problem! We have a team of microsoft engineers who can fix this issue for you!”. They quoted me $180 to fix this issue.
Im really confused, because I’ve NEVER had a program not install in my computer because of “Critical-errors”. I understand if my video card or OS isnt compatible, but critical error history? So i decided to test the validity of this claim by installing the software in trial mode. This is the full version of the software, just with a 30 day time limit. Not only did the software install without error, it performed a full system scan as well as a boot scan without issue. It came up with the same error code when I entered my activation code, however.
I then called the company back, to confront them with my findings. They insisted that the critical errors had to be fixed. They used sales tactics to try to scare me from going back to Norton. They did everything but “unblock” my activation code. I told them to unblock my activation or give me my money back. They told me to go ahead and call amazon for that refund.
In my opinion, this is a scam. I really liked the software, and would have been happy with it and the price. If it works for you, thats great. If not, DO NOT pay them the $180. Just buy norton antivirus like i did.

still the application is quick…
it doesn’t seem to wipe out the yahoo toolbar and homepage changing trojan that stalks some computers…
I seem to be safe from malware… but, I hedge my protection with malwarebytes…
and I know iOrbit wants to sell product (of which I have bought a license)…
But, they need to stop so many interruptions with pop-up banner ad’s for updating to pro…
(Updated 1/22/15) that’s it!!! After calling the company with a minor issue regarding settings; I was fed the usual drivel about needing extra help and more 24hr service to clean the machine and guard against viruses etc…etc…
I took this adware laden crap off my machine. This used to be a good product, but now besides the ad’s; they now have some kind of extra subscription based computer technician service.
For X amount of dollars they will log in (with an overseas technician—NO THANK YOU) and remotely clean and tune your machine.
You need to download a special Uninstaller to get Avast off of your machine… and it still leaves a lot of files scattered around the hard drive… also, Avast shuts off your built in Windows Defender… I finally had to hire a trusted computer pro to completely clean out Avast and restore Windows Defender along with some other security software…
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, LEAVE THIS PROGRAM ALONE
