Nice and tall form factor, top eject fresh air unit. Basically, two large multi filters on opposite sides. Additional perk is the plasma wave to help eradicate anything dangerous in the air, like this year’s bad vaccination match flu and other lingering hangers on since 2019. Very quiet but at full blast it may be a bit more competition for lectures than desired, you may be using a boom mike by now anyhow if in more PPE. Rolls nicely and long cord, ideally you’d like this centered, ejecting up and sucking in low just like a ceiling fan moves air around. Great addition to what seems like many layered theater defense at this point. Unit really begs for googly eyes, did add a plug surge protector due to crap/fluctuations city power and helps anchor cord when rolling class to class on top.

Don’t know if this will work or not. It was damaged in shipping I’m guessing. Now i’m told I have to find a box that isn’t damaged at my expense to return it. What nonsense

I had calculated that I needed 3 air purifiers to cover every space, but after I got just this one the air quality monitors consistently reported positive numbers in every room, even on the lowest fan setting, which is relatively quiet considering its performance.

Problem: The unit has an auto setting that sets the fan speed based on the air quality. Unfortunately, it also decides the fan speed based on how much ambient light is in the room. This makes the unit underperform in dark areas because it assumes that the user wants the unit to be quiet as if the user is sleeping. I have found no way to turn this feature off, so I took 1 star off of my review.

I’m currently living in an apartment, and struggle with airflow, ventilation, and odors in my unit. The ceilings are quite high throughout (>9 ft) and the central air system has only one intake point at floor-level in a hallway near the kitchen. This is difficult, as the bedrooms can get stuffy and dusty, while the intake location near the kitchen is remarkably effective at spreading kitchen odors throughout the unit.

I’ve had an air purifier with a charcoal filter in my bedroom for the past 2 years, which has been effective in that room. However, it would not have been powerful enough for my living room/kitchen area. I began my hunt for an air purifier that could handle ~500 square feet for around $500 up-front. I narrowed down my choices to the BlueAir 121 and this Winix.

I settled on this model for a few reasons:
    —-ON-PAPER BENEFITS OF THE WINIX—-
    1) Separate HEPA and Charcoal filters: in my experience, charcoal filters have a shorter effective lifespan than HEPA filters. Charcoal filters are the primary weapon against airborne odors. Being able to replace the charcoal and the HEPAs independently eliminates wasteful filter “unit” changes of the 121.
    2) Ion generation: I have this on my bedroom unit and find it very effective.
    3) Fan speeds and auto mode: The Blueair 121 has no auto mode, and only three speeds. This Winix has a very responsive auto mode plus four fan speeds and an additional bonus mode: an ultra-low speed sleep mode controlled by an ambient light sensor.

Aesthetically, it’s an appliance. It’s perhaps not as Chique as the Dyson AirBlade models, but I don’t find it offensive. In terms of fit and finish, it’s excellent. Magnetically-hinged filter doors, nice matte finish, functional and castors are appreciated. The capacitive touch controls are intuitive, though I do find it somewhat annoying that resetting the filter requires a push-pin.

Performance-wise, this is a fantastic unit. It does an excellent job managing odors on speed 3 of 4, and pushing it to 100% can clear up the air after cooking a fragrant meal. The fan noise is a bit higher-pitched than the BlueAir 121, but I don’t find it offensive.

The smart features are a letdown: While the app is excellent, it requires a dedicated 2.4 GHz WiFi network name, which is annoying in 2022. It also can only be controlled through Winix servers – no local control. It can be controlled through Alexa, but no HomeKit, Home Assistant, Hubitat, etc. Therefore, the smart features are irrelevant to me. Which is a shame, because I would like to use them!

At ~$420, I am very satisfied with the performance of the unit, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Wi-Fi stopped working after less than two years. It refuses to connect and refuses to broadcast it’s SSID, so it’s impossible to re-setup the Wi-Fi connection. Replacement filter is very expensive. At the time of this review, their replacement filter cost is $150. Winix used to be my fav brand but the company does not seem to know what they are doing. Now, they have 8 different designs and models for medium size room, all have exact same feature set and similarly priced to their popular 5500 model. This proved they incapable to improve and release 5500’s successor and has been struggling in the market. I will replace them with Coway’s Airmega line in the future.
