Andrew Althouse –
I wanted a really small hand mixer and this is just the size I wanted. You really can’t mix anything deeper than an 8 oz glass because the shaft of the tools is so short. This is fine for me, as I wanted something that small, but you can see in the photo how really small it is. It is cheaply made and I wonder how long it will hold up, but the amount of power it puts out is pretty amazing for a little battery-operated thing like this. In fact, if that photo showed the mixer ON, it would be splashing the liquid all over the place. There’s only one speed, so you can’t slow it down. You just press and it blasts away. I use it to mix protein supplements with liquid, but it could be used for plenty of other small liquid projects. Just be careful that you aren’t flinging it out of the glass. I found it worked best in a deeper glass or jar that I could still get my hand into, and then when it splashed up, it wasn’t as likely to make a mess. I haven’t tried whipping cream but I think it would work….but with a SMALL AMOUNT. This is not meant for much volume. I’m happy with it because it’s the size I wanted and the price was right.

It works well so far. Use it at our camper. Doesn’t take up much space at all.

I had the same problem as many others – the mixer sometimes wouldn’t turn on unless I pressed the switch really hard.
The problem is with the design of the switch. The switch consists of two metal contacts sitting under a flexible “flap” at the end of the cover. When this flap is pressed down the contacts are pressed together and the motor turns on.
This design has two problems:
1) The flap is the same width as the indentation in the case. The flap sometimes catches on the case and prevents the switch from turning on.
2) The flap is flexible and if you don’t press on the part immediately above the contacts they don’t get pushed together.
The simple solution is to use it without the cover. The batteries will be exposed but they won’t fall out. You press on the exposed metal contact to turn on the motor. Looks a bit strange but works fine.
The better solution is to use an exacto knife to shave a millimeter or so from the sides and cut 5mm (1/4″) off the end of the flap. This eliminates the interference and prevents you from pressing on the wrong part of the flap.
I’ve attached some photos showing what it looks like if you remove the cover as well as the original and modified switch covers.
The mixer itself works fine for mixing or frothing drinks but is underpowered for anything else. It really slows down when mixing an egg for example.
It works fine with rechargeable NiMH batteries.
Update:
As you can probably tell from the price, this thing is really cheaply built. After about a year this thing stopped working completely. There is a small piece of bent metal that serves both as a battery contact and one contact of the on/off switch. This piece broke where it bends due to metal fatigue (wrong profile and/or material). A drop on the floor then caused the case to split open revealing just how cheaply this thing is made. The other “contact” on the switch is actually the motor’s solder tab. It was not designed for this purpose and over time it arcs, corrodes and bends out of shape. This thing was designed for minimum possible cost with no consideration for durability.
I was able to replace the broken metal part with a strip of aluminum foil folded into approximately the same shape and thickness as the part that failed. Then I used clear packing tape to seal up the body again.
I will replace this with the Ikea version which is probably no better constructed but is a fraction of the price and just as good for the only thing this device is good for: stirring and frothing thin liquids.

I’ve had several of these now (the first two were identical design but different brand), and they last about 5 years. Not bad for under $10 these days. When time to replace the unit, it’ll suddenly seem weak even with fresh batteries.
The attachments are a very snug fit, so you may want to decide on a favorite and not remove it unless your needs change. It’s easy to quickly hand wash the business end without detaching from the mixer. Do not immerse the end containing the batteries.
*The all-metal attachment is surprisingly good for frothing. The photo shows about ½” head of foam; it started with ¾”. If you prefer to mix without foaming, try the plastic pincer attachment. The split one works just as well but is harder to wash. The “egg beater” attachment is pretty much useless in my experience.
*Really powerful for just two AA batteries. I tried making a single serving of homemade pudding, and it had no problem beating out lumps as the pudding started to thicken. Handles protein powder like a champ; leave about â…“ of the container depth to avoid overflow during mixing.
The main con with the item is the touchy power “switch.” Not a true switch; just a plastic flap that presses a contact into position. Soon as batteries were installed, it turned on. That was easily fixed by bending the contact very slightly, so that it doesn’t touch the unit while in the Off position. That being said, I actually prefer this design for several reasons: first, it’s almost impossible for it to fail unless the metal contact breaks, which has never happened to me. Second, it’s very easy to “pulse” your mixing, which you can’t do with a slide switch. Third, when you release the item, it’s completely OFF. This is important if you have carpal tunnel and drop things often. A slide switch would continue to run if dropped; not a plus in my opinion, so I’m glad this isn’t a true switch.
The only other con, also easily fixed, is the batteries being difficult to remove. I’m fine with pressing them in firmly to install, but it doesn’t come with a battery removal ribbon and can be a struggle without.
Cut a small ribbon slightly longer than twice the depth of the battery compartment, leaving just enough extra to grab both ends. Install batteries on top, leaving the ends visible. Fold over the ribbon ends before closing the cover; problem solved.
Very powerful and functional compact unit that fits any cup easily for mixing without having to transfer liquids. Only minor drawbacks.
