I ride my motorcycle on a daily basis and wanted a good quality comfortable open face helmet. The Bell Custom 500 fits the bill perfectly. Very compact so you don’t end up looking like a mushroom. It seems it takes a little time for the inside material to conform to individual head shape but once broken-in, very comfortable. I wear through helmets fairly quickly due to daily use and living in a wet environment. Over 2 years of constant use, the surface of the lining began to flake away, probably caused by the wet climate I live in. The quality of the outside finish is very good. the paint holds up well even when subjected to many drops and bumps. Overall a nice helmet.

I’ve been using this for several months now and boy I love it for the summer months here in Southern California. I use it with Biltwell Goggles and an ICON Highway Hankie. The Large fits my head perfectly, I don’t get much sound, and it performs well at highway speeds (averaging 70-80+ mph).

Maybe folks that are worried how they “look” should be doing fashion shows or designing clothes. It seems a significant % of the Harley crowd are worried about appearance first, then riding. I’m a rider with over 100k miles and 4 cross country trips. For too many years I was not so smart and I wore a “dot” brain bucket. The brain bucket was comfortable, but the wind noise and buffeting were high; still, I put up with it. After an accident, I was commanded by the boss not to ride – our dog died 6 weeks ago, and the “no ride” decision was reversed to deal with his loss. Last weekend I took a 200 mile scoot and realized the bucket would not cut it anymore. I bought this Bell helmet and since have been on a 60 mile highway ride and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Much less hectic now with less wind noise and buffeting (no windshield) and a smoother ride for my noggin. I don’t care what I look like with the helmet on. This is an ideal helmet for old school riders that are used to brain buckets and want to get into a simple upgrade. It is comfortable! The quality is plenty good – I am able to sneak my shades on with the helmet on – I feel a little smarter for wearing a proper helmet. At 60, I’ll take the protection and let others worry about how they look. This is a relative review though….if someone is going from a simple brain bucket to this Bell Custom 500, you will get an excellent improvement in wind noise and buffeting not to mention much better protection in case there is an accident.

Good solid helmet though, like shoes, sizing can vary amongst manufacturers. This company had an easy return policy though the replacement helmet arrived later than scheduled which almost caused me to miss it as I had an int’l flight. Overall Bell is a reliable company and hard to beat at the price point.

Best helmet on the market today. Fits great. If in doubt, call the company- they helped me figure out I should get the large and not the medium.
I got the wrong size to start, but they were great-sent the right one out immediately & credited for the first. Very strong & sturdy- everything a helmet should be.

My hat size is 7 1/8 in a Stetson. Their chart says I need a medium. Because of the comments I read, I took a chance and bought a large. I couldn’t even get it on past my forehead. Back it goes. I want/need this helmet, but I have no idea what size to get.
