Ive been putting this off for a while but i want to tell people how much i like this air rifle. There was little doubt for me that i should get the .22 instead of a .177 but i feel good with this decision. This is not an entry level air rifle even if it as marketed as one. Really this is about as advanced of a single shot air rifle that one would ever need because if you need more than a single shot or more than a 1000 fps .22 then perhaps this is not the correct projectile rifle for you. Works great for me as a varmint poaching rifle and good accuracy for plinking and target shooting. Accuracy is good as it gets for a .22 air rifle. Im down to iron sights because the included 3 dot fiber optic iron sights are such good iron sights, that it would be a shame to put a scope over them. I prefer to iron sight this rifle and it works well. the trigger is adjustable but i found it to have a nice clean and crisp pull to it that there was no need to adjust it. you could probably adjust it down to a very light pull, but i did not feel the need. at about 6 lbs it is heavier than some, but not as heavy as all. this is just the weight and power of an air rifle that i want to stay at and as for stopping power, it is very good. once i got the barrel “seasoned” and broken in it is quite accurate and really a lot like .22 LR subsonic rimfire ammo for stopping power. pellet selection is very important and must be consistent for accuracy. the noise dampener whisper baffles are reasonably quiet and work well enough. its not so quiet that an animal cant hear you fire it, but it is quiet enough that you might get a second or third shot. quieter than any standard firearm ive heard. Maintenance and care are important for this design and you would do well to keep the finish and exposed moving parts as clean and LIGHTLY oiled as possible. Rust makes me angry and i get a large amount of travel time with moisture, sweat and dirt exposure. the barrel length is on the long side but that adds to the velocity and ease of pulling the barrel to ready it. polymer stock is great for durability and functional purposes. The safety is in the tradditional gamo location and works well. ive actually stored this rifle for severlal days with the piston compressed and ready to fire and this has not been a problem because it is an inert gas piston. as for range and distance, i can consistently hit a man sized target at 100 yds very well with good pellet and good placement. this is a rifle for iron sights most of the time and a 100 yd shot is impressive for any .22 air rifle. I get a lot of strange looks and interactions with the police because they think that it looks like a firearm. it handles a lot like a .22 firearm and i would compare it to one. the barrel does not have a very fast twist to it and that is probably a good thing for accuracy at this velocity. The advertised claim of 1020 fps would be for a very light pellet about 9 grains or less. i estimate that im pushing 14 grain pellets about 800 fps or so and this is very good. ive seen water strikes with numerous pellet types and there is little doubt that this rifle is well capable of shooting .22 hollow points to the point of expansion. it is clear to me that hollow points do expand very well on water strikes and dump a lot of energy. less expansion with pointed or domed pellets obviously. I wouldnt exactly say that this should be your first air rifle, but it should be my last air rifle. I like this rifle and am very satisfied with it.

I like this rifle. Accuracy: It comes with the Gamo brand 3-9×40 scope. I read in a few places that people didn’t like the scope so, I bought a UTG scope of about the same specs and mounted it instead. I used the Gamo scope on a Gamo Varmint .177 and its fine. Not sure what folks were complaining about. Anyway, I used an actual 15 meter tape measure over and over again to finally measure out 50 yards/meters in my back yard and set up my target so, I’m sure of my distance. Seems like some people guess at their distances and come back with crazy reports as to range and accuracy. Scope mounted and known distance to target, CHECK. Now to zero.
The first pellets I tried were 22 grain hollow points. Barely made it on target. They weighed a ton and so dropped a ton before getting out to the target. I figured I’d save the rest of them for hunting at a closer range. Next, I tried Gamo brand Rocket pellets at 14.5 grains. These shot pretty well. Trajectory was way more flat. They’re advertised as a hunting round and I’m sure they’d do fine for that but, I kept using them to zero my scope because I didn’t think to buy target pellets at the time I was shopping. They did the trick.
My first groupings were all over the place, but that was operator error. I hadn’t shot a rifle really since like 20 years ago in the military and back then, we had iron sights. (I tried a few shots with the iron sights before mounting the scope and my eyes just were not up to the task so I didn’t even bother zeroing those.)
I finally got 5 shot groups on target and shrinking. When it comes to windage and elevation, REMEMBER: MAKE BOLD ADJUSTMENTS.
The best I could do with my groups were about an inch and a half. That’s not terrible at 50 yards. I’m no sniper and I’m just barely getting my grasp of marksmanship fundamentals nailed back down. The rifle and scope setup can do better, the weak link is totally me. I tried a variation on the “Artillery hold” most airgun guys preach. I rested the foregrip on a cheap range rest that I filled with rice and lightly held the grip. Just tight enough to get a good sight-weld. That actually required an adjustable cheek rest I also bought here. The distance between the stock cheek rest and a position for good eye relief in the scope was just too great. The scope has to mount with enough clearance to see over that bulbous barrel and the iron sights. I didn’t like “muscling” the sight picture with no cheek-weld. So, the adjustable cheek rest option was only about $15 here on Amazon so I went for it.
Over all, this is a good quality rifle. I mean you definitely get your money’s worth.
