Been feeding my birds this for a long time, and they love it. What I love is that this was about 6 dollars less than at the pet store. The only downside of this food mix is that it has large heart shaped pieces in it, which if you use an auto feeder, they might get stuck, so you have to pluck them out before hand. I use a 1/3 cup measuring cup, so I just pick them out of there before I refill the feeders.
***The last two bags I’ve purchased have not had the big heart pieces. They now seem to be broken up which doesn’t cause the problems in the feeders like before. ***

I have tried every variety of parakeet food on the market, and for quality and price, this one is the best available. My five parakeets have been eating this for about two years and they love it and they are happy and healthy. I have this on Subscribe and Save and get a delivery automatically every month.

This is such a good deal for this much seed. My two little budgies just love this food, and I like that it actually has seeds in it, unlike some other brands that are just pellets. The only issue with giving 5 stars is that when my first bag was delivered, it had burst in the box and the seed was everywhere. I contacted for a replacement, which was super easy, but the second bag I received did the same thing. Needless to say I was very surprised, Amazon is usually great with packaging! If the packing was changed and a little more reinforced, I would definitely continue to buy this.

This is good for the price. My budgies seem to really like it and eat most of it unlike other foods I have gave them. This is mostly seeds and very little of that hard fruit. That being said 2 out of the 3 times I have ordered from amazon the bag was damaged and there was spillage everywhere which is hard to collect and some of it was wasted. Needs to be better packaged from amazon. I still give it 5 stars since the shipping from amazon to me is not directly Kaytees fault.

King Cockatiel is incredibly spoiled. Although he’s on a full pellet diet, I occasionally like to mix up his vittles with something a little fun for him to eat. The Kaytee Parakeet Forti Diet is great because it has all the millet, canary seeds, and oats that he likes to eat without being weighed down with piles and piles of sunflower seeds which he also likes to eat but unfortunately makes him incredibly fat. I offer my bird the parakeet mix as a treat, and he plows through it as fast as his little beak can work through. The seeds arrived very fresh and bug free, and the bag is resealable although I usually end up pouring into a large jar for storage. For those who are worried about potential insect eggs being in the seed or who want to store the seed for long periods of time, freezing the seeds is also a good option. Overall, good seed mix that fresh, bug free, and at a much better price than my local pet store.

My flock of budgies love this stuff. I will say though that Amazon needs to package the bags better. I’ve had to return them a few times because the bags slam against each other in the mail and they pop. But Amazon is good with refunding for that, too.
A word of advice – don’t bother trying to get the bag to re-seal. I use a Vittles Vault to store mine and I love it.
Edit 3 years later: I’m up to 10 budgies now and so I buy this in the 25 pound bag. These bigger bags have arrived damaged once or twice in the past, but they haven’t done that recently. It was the 5 pound bags that popped in the mail more often.

My budgie does not like most of the colored bits and I don’t like what the are dyed with. The same brand does a good quality seed without all the dyed bits that she likes much better. If she needs something in her diet that she is not getting I would rather get something to add that she will eat not these heavy dyed vitamin/filler pellet.
Will not buy again.
