Hummingbirds love it. They can perch easily. I like how easy it is to clean and that it takes 1 cup of sugar water.
Only negative is losing some liquid after filling it up and have to flip it over to hang it.

the birds missed this device completely. they are more happy sitting on the real flowers and drinking natural nectar than this device. so recommendation is that if u can get real flowers compared to this device, do that, as natural flowers, of course, is more effective.

This feeder is a smaller one but works for me at the moment. I don’t have a lot of hummingbird traffic so the nectar lasts. The construction is okay with a glass container and plastic feeder that seems fairly sturdy. The wide mouth on the glass container does make cleaning easy. The one thing that is annoying, it tends to leak a little especially in windier conditions as I see nectar dripping from the feeder often. However, this is a good low cost feeder that does attract hummingbirds.

UPDATED: I feel the need to update this rating I gave & the why. Sadly I was wrong on this particular feeder. The first few months I noticed the plastic flowers were already fading & that never happened before & it hangs in the same place my old one did. This puzzled me as its brand new & shows the plastic they now are using to be of poor quality. My other feeder did not do this in 10 years, so yeah. The company should go back to the plastic they were using when feeders actually lasted longer than 1 summer. Needless to say for this feeder review I would not give it a 5 stars but a 2. The second summer I put it out the flowers were all cracking & breaking apart & the ant moat part that it hangs from cracked also & made the feeder useless. So had to buy a new feeder.
Not happy about that & neither are the Hummingbirds.

This feeder is a replacement for the one I had for over 10 years or more from the same manufacturer, giving you an idea how long they can last if cleaned gently & not handled roughly. There are a few changes to this feeder since, one I really like is the wide mouth opening on the bottle for adding the food, makes cleaning the interior glass so much easier than the older model. The ant moat is not so great, although ideal for keeping ants off your feeder it should be made deeper. The hole for the hanging hook is so large & low in that same area when you fill the ant moat the water it goes into that hole so very little water is being held in the moat & in summer that will evaporate in no time. You will be filling that a lot when temps are very warm. I will be using my old ant moat & attached to this new feeder because its water holding capacity is larger & I won’t be filling it often. The feeder itself is great! I received a defective feeder on my first order, it had glass fractures & lots of marks on the glass itself & had nothing to do with shipping. The product was very well packaged. Once I reported this issue to Amazon I was instantly shipped a new one & received it quickly & intact with no damage or flaws. (I did return the defective one, otherwise you will be billed for both feeders if you don’t.) So between the product & the shipping I am very pleased.

This item comes with only 2 of the yellow inserts, yet there are 4 feeding stations. I thought it was an incomplete item, so I ordered a new one and returned the other. The product again arrived with only 2 yellow inserts. After a number of days, I’m still trying to get a response from the seller about this. Disappointed.

This is my second time purchasing this feeder to add to my collection. I love that the nectar holder is glass and not plastic. It is easy to clean and has proven very durable. Another plus is that you can purchase replacement parts to refresh the yellow feeding pieces. Retains its brilliant red color year after year. Would recommend.

This is the best hummingbird feeder I’ve ever used. I bought one at Home Depot to try and ordered two more from Amazon later (Home Depot is not near where I live). It’s much easier to clean than any other feeders I’ve used. The only dripping I’ve had problems with is when I turn it over after filling it, then it splashes a bit. If you mix a big batch and refrigerate it, you have to let the mixture come to the outdoor temperature before you hang the feeder; otherwise the air inside will expand as it warms up and push the liquid out, causing it to drip badly. You may have the same problem if your solution is a cool room temperature indoors and you put it out on a hot day. I take the red flowers off and stick the bee guards back on the spouts without the flower petals because they collect rainwater and get moldy and it’s just one more thing to have to clean. The hummingbirds recognize feeders just fine without all that. I don’t bother to put water in the ant moat. To keep ants off, an an old country person told us to put axle grease on the hanger. I don’t put it on the S-hook; I put it on the bent wire coat hanger that I use to hang it from a tree branch. The ants won’t cross the grease, and it lasts all season. I mix my own solution instead of buying the expensive stuff. Put 1/4 cup granulated sugar in a measuring cup and fill to 1 cup. Stir, then heat it in the microwave long enough to get it hot so the sugar dissolves. Some people like to boil it, but I don’t. Let it cool before filling the feeder. I only put out half at a time, since it can spoil if it stays outside too long. I don’t have a lot of hummingbirds, and they don’t empty the feeder very quickly. I keep two feeders outside and alternate which one gets filled each day. The third feeder means I’ve always got one ready to fill and swap with the old one.

Same problem on two. The red plastic top fell off when I placed the feeder into the dishpan to wash. The threads are faulty on the plastic screw-on top. I tried a top from an old Perky-Pet feeder I had & it works perfectly. If you tried to tighten the top, it pops off. I have used this brand and the similar style for years. My old feeders work well. These two are defective.

UPDATE: Changed rating from 1 Star to 5 Star.
The Manufacture stands by their warranty. Replacement is being sent.
Note: When the weather gets warm the feeder food gets warm & causes it to leak. This is the nature of the thing. Even still, these are a VERY GOOD CHOICE for a hummingbird feeder. I have used these for years. My hummers love them.

UPDATE: 18 months later, and they have faded somewhat (why do they not account for this??) and one mysteriously broke at the loop it is suspended from. This was during the “heat dome” and I wonder if the metal hanger got so hot that it simply “melted”. All that said, I still find this is a favorite of the hummers (Rufous and Anna), and I love the wider mouth for easier filling and cleaning. NO leaking, except the design is such that when you upright it after filling it ALWAYS spills a bit – annoying but not a deal breaker.

I love the solidness of this feeder, the thick glass, and the high sloping top, housing the feeding ports. But, the reason I got this was because the bee’s were loving my hummers favorite feeder, and the large flower with bulbous “bee guard” looked like it would alleviate feeding ports with honey bees crawling over them. There are fewer bee’s but, as the first and only feeder (I have about 15) with bulbous bee guards, I had higher expectations, lots of my feeders with “flat faced” ports are less attractive to the bee’s than this one.

The ant moat was a fail, either it dried out too fast or they did not care; a good coating of vaseline on the hanging wire seems to work MUCH better.

I must say, as much as I like the look of the “nipped waist”, it does make it harder to clean. Thankfully this model has the wider fill mouth (about 2 inches), a huge improvement over the standard fill opening of under an inch (sorry, pet peeve, hate the extra hassle a narrow fill mouth causes when cleaning or filling!).

NOTE: I found the ideal bottle brush, FINALLY; wide (almost like a toilet brush!) and stiff enough to really clean the inside with ease.

TIP: When making your solution mix one part sugar to one part HOT tap water; I use a sterilized two liter jug with one litre water (4 cups) and 1,000 mls (4 cups) WHITE sugar (there is absolutely NO NEED to boil hummingbird solution, the second the first bird dips it’s beak it is “contaminated”). Within an hour (and a few shakes) you have 1600 mls concentrated solution that can be refrigerated for up to a week.

When filling feeders mix the concentrate 150 mls (2/3 cup) to 300 mls (1 + 1/3 cup) water (had you made this regular strength you would have used a 1:4 ratio of sugar to water.

The concentrate has only ONE part water, so you need to add THREE more to complete dilution, BUT you must account for the volume of sugar). Some may be concerned my “math” is off; that the dilution is off (the discrepancy between 160mls and 150 mls), and yes, it is slightly, and yes, you could make it stronger; but this is simpler math, and most feeders hold solution in 1 cup increments, and my hummers at least could not care less.

All in all, this is a solid, standard feeder, with the bonus of the large fill mouth and good value.

I have a flock of about 30 hummingbirds who make the trees in my front yard their home all summer. It started out with only a few but through some testing I quickly discovered their favorite food, pure Organic cane sugar water mixed 1 to 3 (I fill the jar 1/3 way with the sugar & then add boiling water to fill the jar & mix, the result is a beautiful honey brown nectar …cool to room temp then fill the feeders) . Once that was deduced I never let my two feeders run out, then I began having to fill them twice a day and noticed more hummingbirds so I purchased 2 more. The same scenario happened over and over again until I had about 12 feeders, all of which have to be refilled daily. It is quite a chore, but so worth the effort! I can sit on my porch swing and watch every evening as the multicolored flock goes crazy for their dinner feeding before retiring high up in the trees for the night, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced and my guests are often astounded at the entire event and make a point of coming to watch at dusk whenever they get a chance. My neighbor however is less pleased, she puts out one or two feeders of that red nectar mix stuff and they hardly ever venture over to her yard.
Anyway, through all of my testing & experience with the flock over the past few years I have found that these feeders are by far the favorite. I have tried to get them interested in the prettier more expensive feeders that look lovely on my porch, the colored glass, the sculpted metal, the antique bottles, but they always go to these first and only venture to others if these are empty!
I ordered a few more of the old version this year & decided to try this new improved version as well & I wish I had only ordered this new version (Perky-Pet 230CPBN)!!! This design is A HUGE improvement! The old ones have a tiny opening in the glass section making cleaning difficult and mold builds up easily inside the glass & in the plastic ring that holds it to the base (which also likes to fall out over time, spilling sugar water everywhere). In this new version the opening for the glass part is large, perfect for cleaning & they have eliminated the troublesome plastic ring! I also really enjoy that the bee guards are rounded now, I hope that helps them stay on better & the built in ant moat is a big plus! I’m very excited to put them all out and welcome my flock home for the summer!

PS please don’t feed your hummingbirds that red nectar garbage! The dye is not good for them or their young! They really do like Organic cane sugar the best and although it is a bit spendy, here is a trick I have learned….Start out with the Organic stuff to attract as many as your hoping for and after a few weeks & the flock is established you can slowly ease up on the sugar to about a 1 to 4 ratio. You can also slowly switch from Organic to plain white sugar by adding a little of the plain sugar at a time but it isn’t as good for them so I like to still leave a little of the Organic sugar in the mix. Hope that helps you attract lots of beautiful birds this season!
