Exo Terra Cricket Pen, Small, 18 Cm X 14 Cm X 11 Cm

I own various sizes of Lee’s Kricket Keepers and they don’t even come close to the quality of this Exo Terra Cricket Pen.

Both have the same identical removable ventilated lids with one major exception. Lee’s feeder tubes slide into the TOP sides of the LID rather then the body of the Keeper / Pen like Exo’s does. A BIG minus when removing the entire top off and handling three items / parts.
Exo’s tubes stay put, inside, leaving any Hobo cricks remaining inside the tube(s) with no way to escape.

Another BIG difference between the two styles are the “Cricket (tubes) dispensers themselves, Lee’s are round while the Exo’s is square, which makes the EXO’S more stable all the way around and keeps pressure on the trays at their “bottoms” from moving out of place.

Here are the BIG differences though:

Lee’s has these “Lame” round flaps that (suppose) to cover the tube opening when pulled out and almost all of the time they (the flaps) fall off!

The Exo Terra Cricket Pen has a drop down “Flapper door” built into the the inside of the pen’s sides NOT IN THE LID (like Lee’s) that will never fail.

Simply slide the tube out of the Exo Terra Cricket Pen and the flapper drops down very fast and automatically to prevent escapes and easily reopens when the tubes are reinserted.

The Exo Includes both a cricket food tray, and a water tray, both with tapered steps for even the smallest “Pinheads” to scale, the “Lee’s” does not provide any Gut Loading trays.

EXO also included a black sponge to retain moisture in the water tray.

Each tray slides in neatly on the opposite ends of the pen held in place by the (inserted) square tubes that keep the trays from sliding around. The trays can easily be removed for refilling and cleaning. A very nice touch!

At the time of this review both where eligible for “Prime” with the Exo costing ONLY 22 CENTS MORE than the Lee’s, it’s easily worth even a few dollars more!

Also the Exo has a nice shinny Black top cover and is manufactured with a thicker, higher quality plastic, than the Lee’s.

I’m going to purchase the Large Exo Cricket Pen next.

I removed the sponge from the water tray and fill it with Fluker’s Cricket Quencher

I think it would have been great had the bottom of the container not arrived busted and cracked. Crickets can get out through the holes due to the cracks from it being busted.

I like the food and water bowls provided but the crickets keep escaping. I hate bugs but I know my Trevor deserves live food, so the crickets escaping is a big deal.

Einfach aus dem Behälter zuehen, fie Sicherheitsklappe am Behälter schliest automatisch. So hat nichts aus fem Behälter ab und mit den “Röhrchen” zum Terrarium und mittels klopfen, die Anzahl Futtertiere fosueren. Tolle Lösung, so haut einem auch kein Heimchen ab !!

This does work well for my crickets and keeps them contained and secure between purchase and use. But I find that I end up with dozens of fruit flies inside when I give the crickets any fruit at all. And I have the cricket keeper in a closed, dark cabinet, so I am a little baffled that so many of them are getting in. I do wish it was easier to access the food and water dishes, too. I have to take the cricket tubes out to get at the dishes, and that runs the risk of letting them all escape. I haven’t had that situation yet, but it’s a real possibility. I do like the cricket tubes, mind you. They make actually getting the crickets into my terrariums much easier, so it is just a balance of ease of use versus ease of keeping your crickets alive. At least, until, you know . . .

came cracked, still usable but it is way too small. The description claimed that it can hold 20 adult cricket in fact it is not even enough for 5 crickets, this is probably a good container for one cricket

Love that it keeps the crickets contained as intended. The chute idea makes feeding time a breeze. Just be careful when trying to get crickets out as you can’t see how many are about to fall out! Hahaha. My beardie got a huge dinner our first time using this.
