Written in Debbie Miller’s accessible and enjoyable writing style, just like Reading With Meaning, this book expands on some of her ideas from her previous book. This book is based on Debbie’s life outside the classroom as a mentor to other teachers. I would recommend Reading With Meaning before reading this book.

This book has tremendous ideas that you could put to use right in the classroom immediately. I am a third grade teacher and I can use these ideas with just a little adaptation here and there. This book has lessons you could start with day 1. It is also so easy to read. Not a book that you dread picking up, but one that you can’t put down. I am never getting rid of my copy. I will hold on to it for my entire teaching career.

A great read and tool to help your teaching be intentional. Helped me realize I need to show my thinking and not just assume students can follow it.

I highly recommend this book. In a day where children are involved with high-stakes testing, Debbie Miller teaches authentic teaching where children discover for themselves what kind of readers they are through independent reading and practicing fun- engaging comprehension activities that will make children tune into their reading practices. KIDS NEED TO FOCUS ON THESE KINDS OF READING COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES INSTEAD OF LEARNING STUFF THAT WILL BE ON HIGH-STAKES TESTS!!!!!

I ordered this book because the primary teachers at our school decided we needed to be more consistent with teaching vocabulary. We started a book club and decided to read Reading With Meaning. As I was ordering that book I saw this book and ordered it. I’ve been teaching for 20 years and this book got me to thinking about a different way to get my kids excited about thinking of our classroom as being part of a community. I love the ideas for using manners and modeling the type of behavior and thinking I want to see in our classroom.
    Can’t wait to try it!

This book was fabulous and had me nodding and smiling as I read. It has re-confirmed my personal beliefs and philosophy of the wonderful and meaningful things CAN happen in classrooms. A great summer holiday read to refresh my spirit for a new year where children are learning to learn rather than superficially regurgitating facts.

This book is a must have for every teacher!! This book changed the way I teach. I love the style of Debbie Miller’s writing. Reading this book felt like sitting down with a colleague over coffee. I also love that she gives you peeks inside a real classroom. She crafts the words so well that I can picture myself there right alongside her and she visits the classrooms and shares real teaching at its best. Thank you Debbie Miller for shaping me into the teacher that I am today. This book paired with Reading With Meaning is the best PD ever!!!!

This book is another pure gold resource from Debbie Miller. Veteran teachers will be challenged to think about why and how they teach. New teachers will learn from THE master as she gently teaches her readers. The thoughts in this book will help ALL teachers form their own personal vision for Why they teach, How they should teach, and What they should teach. The advice and wisdom will help you become a totally effective and loved teacher. Pour the coffee, cozy up on the couch and enjoy the conversation with an old friend. You will not be disappointed while you savor each word.
