I was looking to upgrade my current scan tool to something that was more powerful allowing for more in depth diagnoses. This scan tool is easy to setup and use. You are able to communicate with individual control units and access service functions. I have used it everyday for about a week now and not run into any issues. The ability to connect accessory tools like the battery tester and osiliscope kit is very useful and i would highly recommend.

I’ve been wanting a topology mapping capable scanner for a while now but they were out of reach cost wise. Finally found a reliable name with a good price point especially with everything that it comes with. The ability to see the networks mapped out by module is going to make Diagnostics so much easier. Love having the ability to do ADAS Diagnostics and calibrating as well. Once you have topology all other scanners seem stupid. This and FCA and DoIP are a must if you’re going to work on anything over 2014 especially Europeans. Plenty of expansion capabilities to add on oscilloscope, borescope, ADAS calibrating , multimeters, Breakout box, battery charging system tools immobilizers and key programmers. The tablet is rugged fast and very capable. I am very pleased with mine don’t think you can go wrong with this one With all of its capabilities And Cost. The only issue I’ve had is setting it up The password does not have to be as difficult As It says in the registration. An eight letter one number password work for me it does not have to be as many characters and special characters and numbers as the registration makes you seem to think that it is.

I had the chance to try out the Launch x431, and it’s fantastic! It’s user-friendly, making it easy for anyone to use, even if you’re not a tech expert. But will still go as technical as needed for the more advanced users.

This is a great deal for the money. The scanner boots up quickly and scans all of my cars. The topology feature is a great utility to use to diagnose your car issues. I was able to fix one of my cars check engine lights that has been on forever. The battery life last a very long time and most of all its very easy to use. Has lots of features in it for every car. For the price, i would recommend this to someone who is starting out to be a mechanic or a DIY backyard mechanic

I was finally able to use this scanner today on a couple of my vehicles. The first one was a 1998 Chevrolet K3500 truck with the 7.4L engine.
I scanned the vehicle and did find one code in the PCM. A P0175 which is a rich condition on bank 2. I have seen this same code on two other scanners I own so I was expecting to find it stored using this scanner. The SES light never comes on for this code for some reason. I did look at some live data and this scanner offers a vast variety of live data PIDS. I did find that I had some misfires on cylinder 4 at idle which went away as I gave the engine more rpms. Long term fuel trims were around -7% on both banks at the time I looked at it.
The second vehicle I hooked it up to was my 1992 Chevy Cavalier. I wanted to see if it would work with an OBD 1 car. This scanner came with a variety of OBD 1 connectors. It did take me a little while to figure out that I needed a power adapter to power up the VCI so it could communicate with the scanner. Luckily the adapter was included in the kit and I was able to power up the VCI.
Unfortunately, the scanner was not able to work with my year car. It did recognize the car after I manually put in the VIN # but the scanner only went back to 1996 for data purposes which is not even OBD 1. I’m not sure what the issue is. The scanner said it was not compatible with my vehicle.
Overall it’s a very nice scanner with a lot of features. It updates very quickly with our internet. The few negatives that I have found were that on the 1998 truck the initial scan was kind of slow. I’m not sure if that was because the age of the vehicle or what. Every function after that was pretty quick. The other negative of course was the inability for it to work on my OBD 1 vehicle even though it comes with the adapters and the advertisement says it works for OBD 1 vehicles. I get that most people no longer have or work on OBD 1 vehicles so it’s probably not a priority for this to work. The last negative was that the advertisement says it has 41+ maintenance features but my scanner only has 37. Maybe in future updates the other ones will be added. Overall, I’m happy with this scanner and look forward to using it on some newer vehicles.

I have several scan tools from different manufacturers and am pleased to report that this unit works beautifully! The topographical module tree and smart scan features make this unit easy to use and gain a quick understanding of what modules are present and how they are interrelated. VIN detection has proven to be fast and accurate. This unit has services that will handle pretty much any diagnostic and repair procedure. For the money, this is a good quality unit that does FAR more than just an entry level scan tool.

The Launch 431 has come a long ways since I first used one in 2014. It boots quick, faster than my Snap On Verus PRO in fact. Tons of coverage, bi directional controls, system topology maps of the high and low speed CAN Buses and several other features. Euro vehicle coding and all vehicle programming through the J2534 compliant box is a handy thing. At my shop we do programming with the factory VCIs for Ford and GM but we will be using this for other makes. It’s a pretty powerful tool with a lot of good features. I’ve got a couple videos to upload once I figure out how to move them from my phone to my laptop.
