I use the planer to shave thin strips off the wooden gate when it swells due to moisture. Very sharp so it is easy to remove extra thin strips to prevent over cutting.

It needs a lot of work to make it work well (flatten the base, sharpen the edge, etc), but once done it works really well. For the price and the time to make it good, it’s worth it. If you expect it to be like a $200 plane out of the box, than look elsewhere.

I needed something to knock down the edge on a door due to a shifting door frame. I live in Houston and the house is constantly moving around on the sea of semi-solidified clay which we use as a substitute for actual ground around here. Little known fact: “Houston” is actually an ancient American Indian word that means “disgusting swamp where no one wants to live.” Air conditioning is the only reason it is even moderately habitable. Anyone who lived here prior to the 1950s had to be a dedicated masochist.
Anyway, I figured if the tool lasted the two minutes it would take me to plane off a fraction of an inch — thus allowing my return to the luxury of actually closing and locking my front door — it would be worth what I paid for it. In fact, it is of very substantial steel construction and was coated in protective machine oil when it arrived. I’m sure it’s not up to the standards of cabinetmakers, but for a light duty household tool it’s quite serviceable and exceeds expectations at the price.

The dept adjustment is just bad. I like the idea of using the nuts to do depth. However they needed to use something like a nylon nut. Too much slack in the system to be of any meaningful use

As long as you read how to properly setup a plane, you will find that it works very well for the intended purpose. The blade is sharp, the product is sturdy and well made. It made it very easy to take the edges off the doors in the house due to the fitter we paid not fitting them correctly and not being able to close.

Provata subito appena arrivata a casa su un pezzo di legno di abete di Douglas. Il risultato è andato oltre le aspettative : trucioli da 5 centesimi perfetti e senza sforzo . Più tardi userò la pietra per affilare ancora di più la lama. Il ferro della lama è ottima e la struttura della pialla e’ molto robusta .Direi soldi spesi bene. Leggo recensioni negative, ma la pialla è uno strumento da saper usare e bisogna averne cura affilando la lama spesso. La lama si regola con due viti laterali.

The plane’s shoe is solid and the size/weight is good. The blade needed a lot of sharpening, but that’s to be expected in a low cost plane. The sole also needs some flattening, but again, that’s to be expected.
What I didn’t expect is a lousy, almost impossible to set up, adjustment mechanism. It takes a lot of tries to get the blade in the right hight and angle. Keep a lot of scrap wood around for testing when you want to change the setup…
