I’ve only used it once so far but I set it up and it looks great. I have the same kelty tent only it’s 20 years old and I am still using it and it’s still in good condition. I bought this new one because my last one was so good.

I’m new to camping and setting up my own equipment. This tent was light to carry, easy to setup and lived the double entrance so each person can have a way in and out without stepping on the other! Highly recommend

As a solo camper I appreciate a tent that is sturdy and easy to assemble and taken down. This tent is all of that! It’s held up well during rain and wind. It is cozy for one person so I imagine for 2 people it would really be close quarters.

This tent was easy to put up by my husband after he familiarized himself with the instructions(every tent is a little different so save yourself the time and just glance them over). I don’t think he’ll need to use them again after the first time. It’s tall and roomy enough for a queen size air mattress with plenty of room to walk around. The rain fly totally covers the tent. My husband and son slept in it for a couple July nights to test it out with a fan mounted across the ceiling and they said it was very comfortable. It also withstood the rain and wind we had while it up. No leaks. The only issue we had is that brand new out of the box the ridge pole was broken. My husband used gorilla tape to hold it together so he could use it. I contacted Kelty customer service and they sent a new ridge pole. I hope these poles don’t turn out to be low quality because the rest of the tent is great. I’ll update if we have any further issues.

Once again, I find myself amazed by Kelty’s combination of quality and affordability. Having purchased numerous Kelty backpacks, it’s no surprise that their tents uphold the same principles.
The tent itself boasts an incredibly easy setup, sturdy construction, and reasonable weight. It proves to be a perfect choice for regions with temperature fluctuations. Considering the price point, weight, and quality, the cost truly feels like a steal. If you’re open to trading a bit more weight for a warmer night’s sleep, this becomes an excellent option. Kelty’s enhancements over other companies are the kind you’d expect from individuals who use their own gear. The tent bag features a wide opening, the tent poles effortlessly slide into durable pockets, and it even comes with high-quality stakes.
Personal Experience:
I had the chance to take this tent camping with a group of 20-30 people. Out of all the tents, this one was the quickest to both set up and take down. Its distinctive colors and material thickness also made it stand out in the crowd.

We bought this tent for car camping with two adults and an 18 month old kid and a 30 lb dog. It fit the bill perfectly. We had space for the two of us to sleep, a pack-and-play crib, a folding rocking chair, dog bed and spare room for clothes/stuff/etc. We compared this to two other 6 person tents, each nearly twice as expensive, and even ignoring price, this tent was a pretty clear winner.
Things that are great:
Easy to set up. This tent has three poles and very simple construction. The sleeves that hold the poles at the corners are also a great innovation that make it a lot easier to set up with one person (the other tents were still using grommets that the poles tended to pop out of). If you’re shorter, it may be a little tougher to set up the final pole across the top of the tent with a single person, but if you’re bringing a six person tent, you’ve hopefully got a friend to help out. With two people, we had the tent set up in just over five minutes on our first try.
Good rain-fly coverage – This rain fly covers the entire tent. It keeps it a little warmer (which may be a good thing depending on the time of year), but I think it’s worth it to have the full coverage. The rainfly only has tie downs in the corners and the vestibules. I’d like to see a loop in the middle of tent to keep it a little more taught, but it didn’t seem like a big issue.
Doors & Vestibules – You get two doors and vestibules, with a good amount of covered space for gear. Doors and vestibules have nice tiebacks to open things up to a breeze if it’s hot and you’re not worried about bugs.
What’s not so good:
Interior Pockets – Inside the tent has 4 pockets (plus the two light-diffusing head-lamp pockets). It’s a weird number for a 6 person tent. They’re also pretty small compared to some other tents.
Weight – The poles are heavy. Hopefully you’re not backpacking this tent. The silver lining is that the count of poles is lower than most other tents of this size.
Duffel is hard to zip, it was tough to put most tents of this size back in their packs, but this duffel seemed the hardest to re-pack.
Faulty Shock Cord – The shock cord in the third pole (the short one) snapped on our third time disassembling the tent. Checking it, there’s another section of the same cord that looks like it’s barely held together that I’m surprised didn’t fail too. Customer service for this issue is not so hot; they want you to mail in the pole and wait 4-6 weeks for them to ship a new one. Or Amazon will replace the whole tent. Luckily, shock cord is not essential to the function of the tent (and honestly not really needed on the short pole). It’s also pretty cheap and easy to fix yourself. But if all the cord looks like this, I’m not too confident the cord in the other poles won’t break soon too.
Overall, I’d say this is one of the best six person tents available and for the price, it is the best six person tent available. If it weren’t for the shock cord issue, it would easily be a five star tent.

Everything I’d expect from a Kelty. My first Kelty was a Salida 2 for backpacking. It withstood downpours and harsh winds and always kept me bone dry so I knew I where to turn for a family tent.
Mama has to have a tent she can stand up in, so I was deciding between this and the tall boy. I could already tell I didn’t like the lack of mesh in the tall boy so I went with the Discovery 6.
It’s mama, the baby (and his playpen), the pitbull, and myself. This tent has ALL the room we need and more. I also really like this tent having 2 doors w/ vestibules…and the vestibules provide more room than I would ever use.
The tent was incredibly easy to set up, when following directions. I failed to follow the instructions when attaching the smaller pole along the top of the tent from door to door and snapped the pole. Kelty initially said it would take 4-6 weeks to fix/replace, but had it back to me in a weeks time. Note I take sole responsibility for the breaking of this pole and don’t believe it was a defect. But be careful.
Attaching the rain fly was quite the task by myself (I’m 5’11”)…This tent is just so tall. But of course, is waaaaay easier with a helping hand.
This tent has been through 2 heavy rains already and not a single drop of water or condensation inside! Kelty did it again! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Bought specifically for car camping… 2 adults, a 3 yo and a 60lb dog. Would easily fit 4 adults shoulder to shoulder. Incredibly easy to set up and take down with one person. Sturdy and roomy! The 2 vestibules are super handy to have. Zippers were easy for my 3 yo to manage on her own. Like other reviews, I agree, the floor feels thin. I’d recommend a tarp or ground cover of some sort to extend floor life. The storage bag is nice. No complaints, we have really enjoyed it!
