I knew when I was buying this bass that it wasn’t top quality but the reviews were generally positive so I was hoping I’d be happy with it. But I had problems with the bass right out of the box. The first thing I noticed were two large drops of resin on the fretboard which caused an unevenness in the playing area. I sanded those down. Then I replaced the roundwound strings with flatwound and found that the action was a lot higher than before and the string tension was a lot higher than I’ve experienced on other basses (NB: The truss rod doesn’t seem to be all that strong, and the bass now needs a new setup). I also found that, although the fretboard is smooth, it doesn’t have the slickness of other fretless basses I’ve played so it just felt weird under my fingertips. And the fretmarks that appear on the side of the fretboard are narrow and more of an ivory than a white color, so it can be hard to see the fretmarks when playing in darker environments.

All in all, it might be a buy but until I get the bass set up, I can’t really play it. I’ll end up using it to practice setups, etc. ** sigh **

As others have said this is a great bass *for the price.*. The tone options are a bit limited, it did require a professional setup and the finish is not perfect. But I’m satisfied with it as a beginner, especially with flatwounds. Fun to play, not a professional instrument. Recommended to anyone who wants a playable fretless for less than $500.

Jealous is the only way to describe how this Bass makes other people feel when they hear it and hear what I paid for it.. I also have a sunburst, turtle shell squier strat that is a lefty I flipped over for my Hendrix set, and its the same way. People hate that it sounds so good and plays so swell.

A nice bass at a good price, but like everything at lower prices, there are trade-offs to be made. Like the sharp corners of the fingerboard. 3 minutes with a piece of 150 gt. sandpaper will make this Fretless Jazz Bass joy to behold. I’m not a big fan of finish on a neck, so I sanded it off (there goes the warranty) and it is a lot of fun to play. Makes for a really good improvement platform, though not much needs improvement on this 60 yr old design of Leo’s. The pickups will do and they certainly are good enough to record and play with until I place in my favourite pickups. I’m a happy camper, for sure.

I had to return the bass because the fingerboard was cracked, not a good thing for a fretless. Missing quality control ?
Electronic, body and neck were superb.

Needs quite a bit of adjustment before it’s close to playable.

this is garbage. the neck is absolute junk, started coming apart within 3-5 weeks. by then it was too late to send it back. stay as far away as possible.

Very solid sound and easy to play. Would have been better with flatwounds, but strings can be changed. Every bass player should have a fretless!

My son’s been playing guitar for a few years now and was hoping for a new bass for his birthday. This fit the bill. Arrived in great condition and he’s had a blast getting to know and jamming on it. As an entry level/practice bass I’d say this is a perfect purchase for its price. As you hone your skills and want to invest in a higher quality you can still have this as a back-up or practice instrument. It’s been a month and no issues with hardware or anything else one might worry in a lower priced instrument.
