Do your research. There’s many out there.

This Donner midi controller is pretty slick. Complete piece of cake to get paired to my antique laptop. I downloaded cakewalk to use for my DAW, and after making a couple simple adjustments, I was able to control the digital instruments via the DMK25.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not a composer by any means. I genuinely thought I could get this, set up s few drum loops and have something to play my guitar with in a few hours, but that’s not the case. Due to my lack of experience, I spent the better part of a week trying to figure the DAW out, even though the Spaceline worked perfectly the whole time. I highly believe that someone with some more experience with this digital stuff would figure it out super quickly.
Value for the money is excellent. There is another company that produces a VERY similar product, almost down to the key and pad layout, but this guy costs significantly less. That’s a no brainer.
The size is about the same as a15″ laptop. It’s not too bulky and would fit fine in a laptop bag.
I’m beginning to figure this thing out, and it’s found itself a permanent home in my growing wanna be home studio!

I really wanted this controller because there’s no other controller on the market with assignable transport buttons AND faders AND pitch bend AND has 25 keys. But I just opened the box and discovered the middle C key doesn’t work, I can’t use it in this condition other than practicing assigning controls, which is why it’s got 2 stars instead of 1.
Also sustain pedal is not the typical 1/4″ format which threw me off, I’m going to have to buy an adapter now.
I’ve also discovered that the high G key does not work at high velocities.
UPDATE: Donner got in touch with me and sent me a working controller. It’s unfortunate that it took the third one to get it right, but they were very communicative and wanted to make it right. Perhaps I just got unlucky. The knobs are a bit stiff, but I do like how the faders feel to the touch. The light up buttons are nice as well. The design is sleek and portable but the keys felt a little toy-like. Overall a good keyboard for travel away from your setup with enough features that you can still make everything work well.

The product page says it comes with a bunch of different software (expensive software if you look it up) and it comes with NOTHING! It come with cords but just because you’re hooked up to a device doesn’t mean it will control this device- you NEED the music production software they *claim* to include with your purchase in order to control the device. I got ripped off. Could’ve gone with a more expensive brand if I knew I was going to spend my entire purchase on other software JUST to use this. Grrr!! So mad. Then Amazon is like of reach out the company- they don’t even respond!!!!!! They know they got me idk buyers beware 🙁

Not as SUPER responsive as I’d hoped but for what it costs that’s alright. Definitely better than the pads on my midi keyboard. Will get the job done in the studio but I probably wouldn’t use it live.

I wanted to give a new MIDI controller a try and I had a great experience with my Donner electric guitar as an entry level beginner’s musical instrument so I decided to pick one up.
The Donner DMK25 is a compact MIDI controller that has features such as a drum pad, configurable dials and knobs, and touch-slide controls for Pitch and Modulation. It is fairly light and thin meaning it would not take up much space on a desk or a bag. The unit itself is constructed of plastic but it is quite well built with no creaks when handling it. Included in the box is a USB Type-C cable and there is an interface for a sustain pedal on the back. There are no drivers to be installed as it is a generic MIDI device however having Windows 10 or the latest version of Mac OS would be ideal to avoid any connection issues.
As it is a MIDI keyboard, it does not produce any sounds on its own and requires the use of a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as FL Studio, Ableton, GarageBand or Logic Pro. The device will be recognized to the DAWs as a Generic MIDI Controller and you would need to assign all the buttons and knobs to specific functions. It takes some time getting setup but after everything has been setup in the DAW, it works really well. The knobs and dials are solid and move smoothly, and the drum pads light up in either blue or purple depending on the selected bank.
For the keyboard itself, all the keys are pressure sensitive meaning that as you press the keys harder, the software will play louder notes depending on the instrument. The white keys measure 19mm x 79.5mm and the black keys measure 8.75mm x 48mm so if your hands are on the larger side, you might have some difficulty if this is your first MIDI controller. The pressure sensitive drum pads measure 25mm x 25mm are made of a pleasant feeling rubber, they are really fun to drum on.
My favorite parts about this controller are the slide-touch Pitch and Modulation dials with a responsive light that brightens depending on its intensity. This allows very quick response when changing the pitch during a performance. I feel it is much better than any other kind of dial and as easy to fine tune as a large wheel.
Overall, a very enjoyable MIDI controller and it will be a permanent fixture on my desk.

Update: Donner reached out after my first review and provided a replacement unit, and it works so much better. The sensitivity of the pads is excellent. It works will be Ableton Live 11 and 12. Great customer service as well!
The unit has nice features, a useful editor, easily connected to Ableton Live, and feels solid, but all of that doesn’t matter if it doesn’t perform well at it’s most basic function. The pads are just not sensitive enough except for the most entry level finger drumming. The required force is too high. I had to strike each pad very hard and it removed any sort of enjoyment or expressiveness while playing. Rolls or ghost notes were impossible. I could do a basic 4 beat pattern but that’s it, and had to keep it set to “full level” the entire time. I tried changing the settings (it lets your adjust the velocity curve in the editor) but it didn’t help. I returned it.

being a newbee in digital music gave a try to this midi-controller, and it’s total win! unbeatable for money, easy to setup, after couple of weeks all works perfectly. very handy to grab for trips with you.
Sheena Mary Rosales –
The unit itself is solid and nice.
But after you plug it into your computer, you are taken to a third party website where you have to register to get the software.
And the software isn’t free, as advertised, you can get a limited free trial, that doesn’t have the full functions.
If I buy a guitar. It should come with strings, so not getting the software with the product changed my opinion on this item…
