The quality of the item is very good. It would have been better if the cable cover was a little longer as it would have been just short of being able to replace front and back on my electric mtb possibly enough to do a non electric one reason for the 5star review all peace’s in the kit fit together perfectly. When cutting to size all stayed together so was easy to pass through the sleeve

Shimano is a really good company they’ve been around for a long time since the 1920s. They make really nice bike parts the tourney series is decent, but the XTR, Deore, Ultegra are the nicer and higher end families. The lower ends like Acera, Alivio etc are nice if your a serious rider, but not a racer…so let’s talk about their brake cables and housing. I have used these set before, and have used it, again and again, many times over. There’s a lot of pros and cons to this kit, which I will discuss below.
    Pros:
1.) You get plenty of housing and its enough for redoing/replacing housing and cables on a single bike.
2.) You get two cables one for the front and one for the back and the length for both are usually pretty sufficient.
3.) Cables and housing are of high quality.
    Cons:
1.)The exposed cables you receive really should be the same length or longer (The Clarks cables I’ve bought usually go all the way down to the floor.)
2.) The kit should include extra cables and extra housing, which would act as an insurance policy in case you mess up so you don’t have to buy a new kit, I would happily pay more for this.
3.) Shimano should make a box of 10 of these sets, which I would again happily pay more for it would save a lot of money in the long run. Even though you can buy a box of housing and a box of 100 cables you have to purchase them individually if Shimano offered a combined version of the Box of long housing and 100 cables (2 for 1 deal) it would save a lot of money in the long run for the average consumer.
All in all though for any DIY individual consumer who replaces their own cables, this is the most affordable option. I love this product and it comes with everything needed to replace your cables and housing. I highly recommend this product.

I was riding my bike and the back brake cable broke. Called a local bike shop and was told two weeks they could fix it for 45$. Went to Amazon order this kit and had it fixed in 20 minutes. The only thing is you need a good sharp pair of cutters. Nice learning how to fix my bike and save some money.

Bought this SS item to replace a steel cable which had rusted. Installation is straight forward but they do put a lead end on the cable at the caliper end which needed to be removed/cut off in order to feed it through the outer jacket. The cable and jacket needed to be cut off anyway to correct length so you will need a stout pair of side cutters. Otherwise it works well installed.

long, sleek… has ALL the parts you need – it comes with 2 – as it says, it’s a set.
I had to salvage a couple extra end pieces/entry/exit points because the bike I put these on ran the brake line to connection points on the frame, then – IDK why, maybe aesthetics (certainly not function) – at those connection points opened up and ran the exposed line to another connection point near the rear brakes.
These are CLEAN…. the ends have BOTH types of line connectors to attach to the hand brakes so you can just see what kind your bike has and clip the other side off.
I don’t even PRETEND to be a bike mechanic or know if this is common. I just needed it done, did a little research, and watched a couple YouTube examples and jumped right in… it takes a tiny bit more skill – well- dexterity/experience than it appeared on the videos, but nothing you can’t do on your own – if you’re slightly mechanically inclined, and/or adventurous.
TIP (experienced I’m sure know, but – I did it by accident and discovered why that was a very smart idea later)
I would suggest cutting the brake line WAY WAY longer than you initially need- you can keep trimming it before you crimp the end-cap on the line.
    – REASON: if you don’t cut/trim the end of the line CLEANLY with your cutters (don’t try regular wire cutters, get the tool), one of the braids will begin to separate & unwind along the length of the line- this will prevent the line from sliding effortlessly and smoothly in the sheath of the wire.
Fortunately, I had cut just the tip not needed, ran the whole line through the trimmed (to the length needed) cable shielding and while doing many things, one of those strands began to unwind… I traced it up the line and thankfully it was below where I needed to trim anyway. I got better line snips, cut it 2 more times (once more a half way to where I needed it to ensure those snips would cut the braided cable cleanly enough to not unwind), then again where I needed…
I crimped the tip (provided in the package) and locked it down with the bolt that clamps on the cable to hold it in place… I tucked the 4-6″ extra wire down under the edge of the brake calipers and it was perfect (after re-adjusting the brakes for proper distance and brake handle squeeze).

Good solid brake cables, with alternate mounting bead styles at each end. These are the benchmark for brake cables, you don’t want to cheap out on brakes, esp over a hilly terrain.
