I got this as an upgrade to my Yamaha 6C, I had ordered several brands to try out but the Jody Jazz came super fast and was the first I get to try and it’s a keeper. Gives me so much flexibility. I was immediately impressed, and think you couldn’t go wrong with this as an great all around mp. Improvement in my tone was very satisfying. Great step up from the Yamaha. I play on a Yanagisawa tenor and have been playing for about a year, so not quite a pro, yet.

I bought this mouthpiece on the recommendation of Jody Jazz. They were very responsive to my email but out of stock of what I wanted. So I bought it on Amazon. Instant gratification. I took a gamble and switched mouth pieces two days before a gig, and boy did it pay off. Low note play easier, high notes play easier, great tone. I sound like what I hear in my head now. Fits in with my SKA band great. For reference I was playing a selmer s80**. I like that piece too, but wasn’t cutting it for an 8 piece ska band. If I was in an orchestra or big band and needed to “fit in” rather than stand out, I’d still be on the selmer.

This mouthpiece is awesome. It can get a nice dark jazz tone but still lots of projection. It gets lots of low subtones that make the tone nice and thick. It’s also probably the most comfortable mouthpiece I’ve ever played. It’s mostly free-blowing, with just enough resistance. The only thing I don’t like is the ligature it comes with. It’s a Rico H ligature. It’s cheaply made and the reed doesn’t seal right with it. I had to switch to my Rovner, and the fancy Jody Jazz cap doesn’t fit over it which is disappointing.

This mouthpiece is phenomenal. It feels so good to be playing again after years, and the sound this provides is perfect for jazz or anyone just trying to jam a little bit with friends.

FYI, this mouthpiece does not come with a ligature or cap as advertised. They stopped including these back in 2019. JodyJazz is in the process of removing this from the description. If you reach out to them, they will provide it as the description has not been updated.

This is a very free flowing mouthpiece. It’s extremely high-quality. Also the density of the rod rubber, it’s quite significant. The result of which is reduced vibration of the mouthpiece While playing.

When I received my Jody Jazz 7star mouthpiece, I did not receive it in a sealed new box. The box appeared to have been opened and closed several times. It should have been wrapped in plastic. In short, it looked like an old box.The mouthpiece itself is in good shape as far as I can tell, I believe once a sealed box is opened and perhaps sent back, it should be resold as used. Disappointed.

Best hard rubber (or composite) mouthpiece I ever tried. Has all the richness of an old school HR mpc like a Link or a Berg, but when pushed, it takes any amount of air you can give it, and doesn’t get thin or break up. And although it sounds fantastic on old style jazz ballads, it has more than enough power to play RnB and funk; I can even get a Lenny Picket vibe out of it. And … intonation is perfect!

It has a wider tip opening then what I was familiar with but after a few weeks, I really started to appreciate the better tone I was developing.
