These strings are lower tension than the Martin strings I am used to.
They sound tinny to me – not “warm” at all.
Th old Martin phosphor bronze strings were much warmer.
The “Authentic” Martin strings that have taken the place of the old strings are a different story.
I will keep searching for something that sounds like the old Martin PB strings.

they wear very well . vintage bronze is brighter than phosph0r bronze but not as bright as 80/20. vintage bronze is 92/8 nice full range with a little brightness to cut through. 5 stars . I’ve been using them for years and highly recommend them. 5 stars.

They’re GHS strings, and like all GHS strings they sound great but to me, seem to lose their brightness fairly quickly…. I use these strings when I want a deeper tone, such as solo performances, acoustic shows, etc… I’m aware other players don’t do this (trust me, I’ve had techs, other players ask me why, and it’s just because I can hear the immediate difference once a string loses it’s life/color), but I usually change strings (electric & acoustic), every 6-8 hours of playing… That usually gives me, playing time to break them in/stretch, a good rehearsal/sound check and one show (1-2 hours)…. My acoustic playing time is really small compared to the time I play electric so, spending money on acoustic strings that get changed regularly doesn’t make since to me… All in all, a good set of acoustic strings…

If you have a travel, parlor, or small body acoustic then you know they can be a bit bright and trebly. These GHS Vintage Bronze worked well for warming up my little Yamah parlor. The low E is now more pronounced and better balance with the high strings. Note, these don’t feel like low tension strings so if your small guitar needs lower tension strings maybe try the GHS Silk and Steel or their Silk and Bronze.

I have been going back and forth between “D..” strings, GHS mediums and the GHS Vintage all in mediums – need the volume for bluegrass and old-time fiddle bands. My Doc Watson Gallagher likes the “D…” brand better. But my Taylor BTO (Adirondack/Madagascar R/W 816) sounds the best by far with the Vintage Bronze mediums. Strong on volume, bass response and sustain. Still has very clear treble and rings like a bell up the neck. On the new Taylor 616 ce, the Vintage Bronze was slightly down on the sharpness of the attack but added a lot of bass and sustain. The maple is trebly anyway so I am enjoying this guitar much more now.
Would recommend these to anyone who doesn’t like the brightness of new strings

The description for these strings says they are “well suited for balancing the sound of guitars that are considered too bright” so started installing them on my “bright” solid Koa guitar. I then tried playing the guitar after putting on the lower 3 strings (D-A-G). Am not sure what balancing was accomplished but even without installing the remaining 3 strings, it sounded like the life had been sucked out of the guitar. As such, I removed those three, replaced them with the old ones and disposed of the entire package. I cannot recommend these strings for any purpose. Unfortunately, due to a shipping error, I will be receiving a second set that was overdue and had to be re-ordered; those will be returned immediately when received.

I prefer a darker, warmer, and woodier tone with my acoustics. After trying everything from phosphor bronze, to 80/20 bronze, coated, uncoated, aluminum-bronze, parabolic, etc….I’ve settled on the Martin Retro monel strings for most of my guitars including an old Guild D-35, Martin 00-15M, and Gibson J-185. And then I tried these GHS Vintage Bronze and honestly I’m quite impressed. I tried the GHS Americana strings but I found those too bright. These, on the other hand, are much warmer and woodier almost like my favored Martin Retros. Will I make the switch to these? Maybe, but its too early to tell. I do like these a lot and i’ll probably do an A-B comparison soon. But so far, so good. These may become my new favorite.
