Not 100% sure if it was the string, but I was using it as the 5th string on a 5 strung bass, and it broke almost immediately . Again, I can’t say with confidence it was defective.

I needed a single 0.080″ because I mistakenly strung up one (intended to be a Bass A) in the E’s place. Having cut the end off prior to putting in a short 90 degree angle and cutting it to length, the string was now useless. I was really happy to not have to buy a set to get just one string. I do like the tone, which I do not at all find to be super bright. The only playing drawback is that the surface creates some finger drag. I rub some Finger Ease along the strings with a bit of rag and that is lessened.
CON: In the Short Scale, the outer winding JUST makes it to the nut slot on the E and A on a VERY small bass, the Bass Centre London’s “Wyman Bass” which has a shorter scale than my 1974 Gibson EB3! I started out stringing up at the string- through -body ferrules but had to pull the string out and use the bridge tail slots. These are NOT very long tail pieces or bridge saddles, so I find the outer wrap length to be ridiculously too-short. I had an issue on another short scale bass which DID have a longer tailpiece with regular D’Addario nickle plated strings where the D’Addario strings on A and E barely reached the nut. I had to use DR, which have a much more generous outer string winding.

5 stars all around! Nice tension, tight and punchy tone. Don’t think you can just slap this on your 5 string without getting intonation and set up done. It is bigger than the average B string and worth getting set up correctly by a professional. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this as a solution to get a nice hard hitting B string or even down to A if you roll that way.
