When my baby was born I had to sell most of my music your special by recording equipment. My wife bought this for me last Father’s Day. I’m very happy with the quality and price point of this product. If you just want to record songs with your pro editing software at home, this will not break the budget and does a great job.

When my nearly 10 year old M-Audio Firewire 410 finally died, I turned to M-Audio again for my audio interface needs. Because my new systems don’t have Firewire support, I purchased the M-Audio M-Track II. For those new to M-Audio, the company is known for terrible drivers, and in recent times, terrible USB 3.0 support. However, for $79 this interface is probably the best available if the user has access to USB 2.0 ports. Everything on the interface works, even the phantom power. The issues arise when using USB 3.0 ports. I’ve experienced problems such as no playback, extreme cracking/pops (not latency related), and a higher playback pitch. For my desktop computer, I have to use the USB 2.0 ports as the USB 3.0 ports don’t work with the M-Track II (I’ve experienced this with two different desktops). However, on my laptop that only has USB 3.0 ports, I have to disconnect and reconnect the M-Track II in order to fix whichever issue I’m experiencing at the time. This is extremely frustrating at times, but for the price and the capabilities, I’m willing to deal with this for the time being. The latency with this interface is a little slower than my Firewire 410 at 5ms, but it’s an acceptable latency for me.

Genuine product! best option for beginners. Comes up with Ableton Live bundle.

…I have to only give 2 stars. Everything works fine unless you are using a condenser mic that needs the 48+V power button. This interface does not supply it when the button is pushed. There is hardly any gain on the mic even with the levels maxed out. Pretty much useless for recording w a condenser mic. I have reviewed the M-Audio boards and many people are having this same problem. It is not the mic, as I have used the mic with other interfaces. Everything else works great, and it looks fantastic. Just a shame the phantom power doesn’t work.

You go to the M-Audio site, you select the model you have (look at the name of this item you are buying, you see it is Plus MKII), and you select the driver for your operating system. My PC is old but is running Windows 8.1 32 bit, and it was recognized instantly by the PC. It’s been flawless.

So far, so good. Light use for maybe a year or so and no problems. Worked fine on Windows 7, and still working fine after switching to Ubuntu Studio Linux (64 bit). Nice smooth solid knobs. Pre-amps are obviously crap if you’re used to something a little more high end like the cloudlifter, but for indie recordings (youtube and even iTunes), it’s great. I would recommend higher gain microphones in the XLR slots, as opposed to the quieter ones (like SM57 or SM7b), so you can avoid having to ramp up the pre-amps.
Excellent for the price.

Does not work with windows 8.1. There are a lot of angry people out their who feel abandoned when it comes to driver updates and owning the 8.1 OS. I am one of them, kind of. I can just install a secondary OS, BUT, I shouldn’t have to. Built really well and attractive. The only issue I find with it physically, which is not really that much of a deal, is that the bottom rubber pads are attached by adhesive. They could have been screwed on to make the this thing more tanky but what ever. Love the LEDs. The colors complement each other as well as the design which is what I’m a sucker for. Update the drivers guys….

The 48v phantom power amp stopped working after near continuous use for 6 years. I’m not sure if this is good or bad but now I have to buy another.
