I’ve had digital music keyboards that had options for analog or digital control of volume directly through foot pedals, but my Privia PX-3 doesn’t accommodate either solution. Enter the Boss Stereo Volume Pedal.

Connections are made from the L/R line outputs of the keyboard to the pedal. Then from the pedal outputs to the amplifier(s). It works perfectly without any other setup. The pedal action is just stiff enough so it holds position if you move your foot off the pedal, and the volume limiter knob ensures you won’t accidentally cut off all sound. There is an “out” for a tuner but that’s not particularly useful for a keyboardist.

Note: You want the “low impedance” version for keyboards – FV-50L. The FV-50H (high impedance) is for use with guitars. (There’s also a more expensive version with a metal case – FV-500L.)

I used BOSS volume pedal with my Yamaha DX and now using this new pedal with my PSR Synth. Excellent quality, will hold up over the years, solid construction. This is the pedal that I would highly recommend.

I got my first FV-50L because I have a synth with an odd tendency for the digital “expression pedal” volume control to not go to zero volume; otherwise it’s fine. Run it through this and problem solved. I got another for controlling the main out of the computer audio interface while playing live. And then another for…well, you get the idea.

It’s not the greatest feeling or sturdiest volume pedal in the world, and you may have to adjust the large side screws with a large screwdriver to make it stiffer according to taste. But if you need a stereo volume pedal for synths or other stereo sound sources, give this a try!

This volume pedal works like every other volume pedal I’ve used for my keyboard, except this one seems to be direct electronic. There are no batteries to change and no string to break. The stereo feature is useless to me but it could be useful to use as a master volume.

I got two of these fv-50l pedals and I like them a lot. The price is stupid high but I got both mine for under $70.00 each, that’s way better than the $120.00 average price out there. I use these on two pedalboards I have a small and large one. Volume is light and doesn’t add much weight to my big board, that’s a plus. Once mounted to the board it feels solid under my fat foot. It has a decent sweep range And a minimum volume side pot which is cool, plus tuner out and it’s stereo! Just make sure you get the right one for your setup the low or high impedence. Another giant plus to its light weight is no batteries needed. It’s a keeper if you get it for less than 70 bucks. I’ve owned and used this pedal for six weeks so I don’t know how long it will last?

I bought this pedal to work with my new Yamaha PSR e463 keyboard. I wanted to use a pedal to quickly jack up the volume for keyboard solos and improvising. I’ve tested the pedal and it does what it is designed for. I put the pedal between my keyboard’s single audio out and my amplified speaker. In order to get the desired range of volume increase synced with the pedal range of movement three volume knobs were available to fine-tune the desired increase in volume. Best of all, the volume pedal has an adjustable knob on the side for setting the minimum volume. and is a really nice feature. First set the minimum volume feature on the pedal. Then set your keyboard’s volume and your amplifier’s volume based on size of the room you’re playing in. And, there you have it.

I purchased this pedal for use with my Yamaha PSR EW410 keyboard, since it’s difficult to adjust volume using the turn knob on the keyboard while performing with a band. (For the life of me, I don’t know why Yamaha doesn’t provide an input for a volume pedal on all of its keyboards – the first smaller and inexpensive Yamaha keyboard I purchased years ago not only came with such an input, but a pedal as well!) Note that this pedal is a little cumbersome to set up, since you need two sets of dual cables with two mono 1/4″ plugs on either end if you’re using both output channels – one running from the keyboard to the pedal, and the other from the pedal to your amplifier (for the cable from the keyboard to the pedal, I recommend the Pig-Hog PD-21406 1-4″ – 1’4″ 6 foot dual cable, available on Amazon). You also have to set the minimum volume using a knob on the side of the pedal (the numbers on the knob are a little difficult to read). Once set up, the pedal worked like a charm, easily transitioning from low/moderate volume for routine accompaniment to higher/highest volume for soloing. A great solution at a reasonable price compared to similar pedals, and it seems sturdy and stable, despite being made of plastic.

    ONE-STAR AMAZON RATING

I purchased the Boss FV-50L volume pedal from Amazon for $66.99. It is a POS, trust me… This pedal has an intermittent problem of cutting out all sound. My keyboard rig goes through the volume pedal and out to the PA. I will never buy another Boss product for as long as I live.

Dear Boss, your fragile trash embarrassed me. When it crackled THEN I said, “Gotcha, ya little bastid!” Good gear does not crackle, and distort only after 4 months of ownership.

The Boss-47L volume pedal was a live performance trouble-shooting nightmare. Because I was trying to isolate the problem, I was swapping cables, rebooting my stage piano, rebooting my pa speaker, rebooted my mixer, then my sound would start working in the middle of a song.

This Boss-47L volume pedal was almost new from Amazon and replaced a different brand that lasted four months.

FINALLY I got smart and purchased an Ernie Ball 40th Edition passive volume pedal to replace the Boss-47L. Ernie Ball is a superior peddle to almost everything out there. If you are a musician who performs live, buy an Ernie Ball robust aluminum volume pedal and it is worth the extra $20.

I have been using it very happily for a year since June 2023. The volume from the pedal seemed too thin for a previous program. Sometimes only one channel comes on. Both channels work directly from the keyboard. How and where to repair it? My place is Pathanamthitta in Kerala.
