I’m a beginner guitarist, and it sounds great. The weight of it isn’t heavy. There was no delay problem. The power supply works great. I exchanged the battery that came with it, even though I haven’t tested it enough to know how long of a battery life it has. The design is great. Anyway since I plan on learning heavy metal, thrash metal and grunge, this pedal will go a long way helping me get the sounds I’m looking for. I am planning on getting another one as a Christmas gift. To anyone that’s a guitarist(and I don’t know if it works on a bass guitar)either as a long time player or a beginner, i definitely recommend it. This distrotion pedal has been around since the late 70’s and it’s one of the best distortion pedals out there. If you want to know some famous guitarists that used a Boss DS-1 pedal:

I had no idea this pedal was so versatile. I’m everything from overdrive to fuzz out of it. Some sounds are better than others, I really like the Custom mode. The sound depends tremendously on the pedal settings, as well as your amp and guitar. I found that if I keep the distortion and pedal volume at about the same level, I get a much fuller sound. Also, it sounds better through the dirty channel of my amp, and even better in the effects loop. When i first tried it through the clean channel with distortion way up and pedal volume down, it sounded shrill and brittle. So, you do have to play around with it. But when you get it, it’s one of the best and most classic distortion sounds you could ask for.

This sounds like the distortion you think of in your head and it couldn’t be easier to use. There are only 3 knobs so you are always a quarter turn on something from that perfect bright distortion you are looking for. It’s build like a tank and quality of the sound seems impossible to change. You are one stomp away from that dream distortion everyone else is trying to imitate. I’m am happy I bought this and the value added by the accessories is just gravy.
