    Update

The phone failed this week to receive or send email to Cornell email service

The IT department informed me that MS upgraded its security to OAuth 2.0 authorization

The Nokia 6300 email has an old security protocol that is increasingly no longer accepted

Messages to Nokia to upgrade its OS, via emails to

    developersupport@kaiostech.com

    received no response

In addition to not being to able to display messages with higher resolution pictures, this phone can not send the videos it takes. Trying to send, by email, a 6.4MB video, generates ERROR:

Attachment is too large to send with this message

To mail the video, I had to transfer it from the Phone to my computer, and mail it from there.

A phone should be able to email videos up to the email limit . On my email provider 10 MB

This phone will take 640×480 videos, 6.4 MB, but will send error message “Attachment too large too large to be send with this message” when you try to email it to a friend.

6.4 MB is NOT a large attachment. It mailed fine when I transferred it to my computer.

Surprising that a phone with a 4 GB internal memory can not email a 6.4 MB attachment

Build a leather case with a magnetic catch for my new Nokia 🙂

    * Very good voice quality
    * Very good battery live for what it offers
    * Very easy to set up email with your email provider
    * Confusing instructions “Avoid touching the antenna area while the antenna is in use. Contact with antennas affects the communication quality and may reduce battery life due to higher power level during operation.” ..but the Instruction manual has not indication WHERE the antenna is. The OS , too, is not intuitive
    * Annoying for texting, if you like to use predictive mode. Every time you have to use the # key to insert, e.g. @, it falls out of it.
    * Can NOT handle message from my daughter that includes pictures of my grandchildren taken with her smart phone. Too high resolution for the phone to handle it. Will tell you to “download” than sends error message
    * Google Maps includes “your location” but this a) takes around 3+ minutes, and b) then shows me seven miles off from where I am
    * Camera is 0.3 MP , that’s ok for me, but white balance is good only for outdoor shots
    * Games can NOT be removed. Have zero interest in playing those, but they can not be unloaded
    * Nowhere CLOSE to the build quality of my previous Nokia..

Overall, more than needed for people who only want to talk, text, and read email but not enough for people wishing to use Google Maps and Directions.

I purchased this phone to use as a secondary to my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I have been using the phone on AT&T over 2 months. The phone is very well built, and works very well. The phone is responsive and quick; however, some Kaios apps can be glitchy and crash. For example doodle jump will not work at all. With that being said, the phone is excellent regardless, and gathers a lot of attention.

In the current age, where people are having fistfights over the newest iPhone, when apps and notifications gives one anxiety, I too became enamored by the simpler times when phones literally cannot do half the things that today’s phones can easily do. This is the expectations I had when I bought this. With that said, let’s discuss the Pros and Cons of having “dumb” phones and especially this one.

PROS: 1, Weight of this phone, is simply amazing. I can fit this in my front pocket and not feel like I am carrying a brick. The first few weeks I would frequently think I had forgotten to carry my phone only to realize “oh yeah, this phone is featherlight” compared to nearly every smartphone I’ve ever had. 2, Battery Life – it is better than anything in the smartphone category. Now the very point of having a dumb phone is that you’re not supposed to be glued to this thing using it constantly. If you’re using this to periodically send texts or check an email or two (I’ll discuss the browser later), so far the battery can easily lasts you 3-5 days. Now, I have days where I used this more intensely, this can shorten the battery life up to 2 days, maybe shorter. The battery is replaceable, so if this really becomes an issue, perhaps buying a new battery is in order. 3, Overall Interface – KaiOS is not perfect, but again, for a “dumb” phone that has smartphone apps like WhatsApp it is great! It is running on 4G LTE! If you really are in a crunch, the hotspot on this was great! I had my old Smartphone with me early on just in case I’m like “Oh dear G-d what have I done?!” and I only had to use the hotspot once and it functioned fabulously!

So now let’s talk about the “neutral” stuff, and these are neutral to me, you may find these things pros or cons depending on what you’re looking for. Now “neutral” item 1, the camera – this is your classic, crappy phone cameras that I remember from high school. This will not, will never take great photos! Let’s not even talk about if the lighting is terrible. Don’t buy this camera if you must have a nice camera. 2, You need to manually turn on certain types of notifications to make sure you get those. So I wanted to make sure I get the text messages from my wife, that is always a priority and I had only learned more than 2 weeks later the reason I didn’t always get them right away is because you had to manually make sure notifications are available when I want them to. But this was easily remedied and now I am getting them, so beware. 3, the Brower … well, I do check emails on this and these old school HTML works okay on it. I only have 2 email addresses where I like to make sure emails are read timely. But this is about it, nearly every other website will not work on this. So don’t expect to read anything data heavy on this.

Now let’s go into the Cons, and they’re Cons to me and my needs so you may also not agree. 1, lack of group text availability. So I don’t enjoy getting texts from anyone except maybe 10 people, and of those, some are our couple friends that we only group text. This phone is capable of receiving group texts but you cannot send them. When you are replying to the group text you receive, they’ll be sent out as individual texts to the recipients. This is annoying! 2, you cannot uninstall the 9 stupid games it comes with. Look if I enjoyed mobile gaming I wouldn’t have bought this phone, so I wish KaiOS would let us uninstall these and free up more space. 3, Google Maps actually doesn’t work well on this. It crashed constantly when I do try to use it. Not that I really need it always, but my vehicle is Samsung Auto enabled which means I don’t have GPS in the vehicle because obviously this phone won’t run Samsung Auto. So if I really needed to find direction somewhere, I guess my wife would need to use her smartphone.

So this is my very details review of Nokia 6300 4G and please do know that you’re buying a phone that is not an iPhone, not a Galaxy. Know what you’re buying and I gave it 4/5 stars because of the Cons I gave. But I am very happy with this phone!!
