I tried dried mealworms, then I tried live mealworms for the bluebirds in central NC. The bluebirds showed no interest at all such a succulent treat (yuck). After reading another review about these hulled sunflower seeds I bought a small bag to try. I put these in my bluebird tray and now I have to refill it every day. Once they found the feeder word was passed around the small bird hotline and, voila, every small bird in the neighborhood expects me to have the tray filled early every morning!

The birds loved this! It went quickly! I had a variety of finches and mourning doves visiting. We don’t have a huge variety in the city but the birds around loved this one. I tried another one after and it hasn’t been as popular as the sunflower kernels. These cause much less of a mess than other varieties.

Recently received my first order of hulled sunflower seeds, and the product seems fresh and clean, with plenty of whole seeds, and no bits of debris or stowaway critters. Don’t know why it took me so long to think to search for sunflower kernels for birds. I was buying the unroasted/unsalted kernels at Trader Joe’s, and the birds liked them so much that they were busting my budget. WARNING: if you see a visiting dove (they love sunflower hearts) and, like me, think, “Oh, how lovely,” be aware that gentle solo dove will soon bring its friends and family. You’ll then have a non-stop flutter-fest, fights, and daft doves flying into your windows. They’ll also eat you out of house and home, deprive the neighborhood finches of their share of the seed, and will repay you by dropping huge splats of dove-doo everywhere.

These seeds were such a hit that I’m now getting birds whose habitat is usually a bit farther up the hill, where there are more pines. And today, there was an actual pigeon at the feeder, and I’ve never seen a pigeon in this area. As they’re cousins of doves, I hope that lone pigeon doesn’t bring friends as well, because the bigger birds are putting off the finches. This was my first order, but I’ll be buying more. Glad I found these and can stop spending so much on “human-grade” sunflower kernels.

Amazon was running a special with pet supplies: if you spent a certain amount you get $$ promotional codes to use… so I Hopped on THAT ,, LOL!! I was just about to buy my regular brand of sunflower seeds, when I saw this one at a lower price point, and decided to take a chance with Audubon and stock up, as I wasn’t completely happy with my regular brand with ALL it’s dust in the bag. So… At first I wasn’t sure because upon opening the bag, they smelled different.. Not Rancid Bad… just different.. kinda like rosemary / Oregano oil,, or something like that.. ??… but then I thought.. well Ive had other products , like organic soups, etc …that use natural preservatives like that… but I couldn’t find that in the ingredients on the bag… However, the smell quickly faded once opening the bag for a few minutes, and the birds/ squirrels seem to love it !!! Theres no dust , the seed is both whole and pieces which is good for both bigger doves & smaller finches etc… I’m happy with it, but would still like to know what , if any , preservative they use, as it was a distinct smell I can’t put my finger on… however I’ll continue with Audubon brand as it seems like Quality Sunflower Seeds for the “Kids”.. I call them.. LOL.. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Of all quantities available online, these 5 lb bags are most affordable and under the price breakdown for more weight discounts. I can parcel out to my Pheasants & Chicks or Turkey Poults as good quality Protein & enzyme additive to their main Feed as a home mix. Sunflower whole or shelled is a raw, totally natural food for Fowl & other grain, nut, seed eaters. The oils boost plumage & organ health and vibrance. Big changes since we began using Sunflower raw, also Mealworm or BSF Larva also for proteins & enzymes, natural amino acid as our livestock would eat if they were wild.

I made a small bird feeder that I hung on an all glass storm door that faces the back yard. I can sit in my chair and see all the birds that come to feed. I use mainly sunflower seed. Most of the shell would fall right in front of the door an on an outside rug. Any time I used the door I’d track the shell inside when I returned. Well,no shell equal no mess. Problem solved!👍

The birds seem to like the fact that there are both chips and full sized pieces. Great quality!

For the price it can’t be beat. Arrives promptly every time & my birds (and squirrels 🐿️) approve!

There was no off smell & size was a good value for the price.

I know my birds love the taste bc it’s gone too quickly!
