I’ve never gotten my budgies to eat mealworms before, live or dried, but know how good the protein is for them. I decided to try this because they love cuttlebone, and while this isn’t cuttlebone they love chewing on it and apparently the taste–plus it gives them essential vitamins.

I’ve tried the other calcium blocks out there and these are the only kind that my birds will peck at. I still have one Parrotlet that doesn’t use hers but she doesn’t touch cuddlebone either. My other hen shreds these blocks in two weeks lol, and so does my GCC.

I added rocks to edges and gravel in the middle so butterflies and bees could drink without drowning. When the Sun falls on it, I put an ice cube behind each rock, so the rocks don’t get too hot.

It’s a mineral block, not much to expect. Came intact. Nothing was off about em.

Note that are also dried worms in it, which I didn’t realize until it’s exposed after some chewing. I think my birds like it.

My birds didn’t go nuts for these like they do the more inexpensive brand from Walmart.

The budgies are enjoying the new block with mealworms… BUT when I popped the first out of the plastic package, about 1/4 crumbled right away. It’s not usable. I didn’t take the other 2 out because I don’t need them yet. I’m not sure if they are broken too!? They are vacuum sealed in plastic so I won’t know until the budgies are ready for more. Maybe this is why they were a “deal” because you lose 1/4 of the block as soon as you take it out of the plastic. Boo. I also notice that compared to their old pink block, this one is crumbling onto the bottom of the cage as they use it – much more crumbling than their first blocks, which were not mealworm.

We have 4 parakeets and a couple of them are “chewers”. We tried cuttlebones, which lasted a day maybe two. We then tried the white mineral block, which did better by lasting 2-3 days. At that rate it was going to get a bit expensive. I was tempted to put in a brick or a piece of granite for them to chew on.

Then we discovered these on Amazon. I don’t really know about the taste; however, one will last more than a month and keeps their beaks in great condition. Even the chewers can’t riddle thru it very fast. So for less then $3 a piece, it outlasts the cuttlebones and white mineral blocks by miles. Well worth purchasing and will continue to purchase them.
