This cat bed/house is actually too small for my cat, and he weighs just 9 pounds. Also, when he got into it the thing flipped over on its side. It has no structure to it that might provide stability or strength. The whole thing is just very soft and has no substance to it. Not much to be said about this thing.

This item arrived in good condition and on time. There’s no odor. It was shipped in an Amazon box.
It’s very pretty and soft, inside and out. A cat could sit on it and make it into a cushion easily. The dome holds its shape well, and the ring design allows it to pop back up easily after being compressed.
At first I was unsure of the quality, because the inner dome material is finished with a tightly woven net over foam. The bottom under the cushion is a thin material, with anti-skid dots. I think this is a nice feature. The removable inside cushion is stuffed with soft polyester fiber. This cushion is made of a different thin and soft material. The foam that constructs the sides and top of the bed feels thick and dense. The outer cover is a densely woven soft and shiny fabric. This combination blocks wind and sounds. I thought the cat would like that (she does) and wondered if her claws might get stuck somewhere in there. The exposed inner foam seams had me worried too, but it’s all ok. This material doesn’t encourage her to scratch, and when stretching she hasn’t caught herself on anything.
After checking the bed carefully I tried to damage the thinner fabrics by scraping and pulling on them. They don’t stretch, and aren’t thin around the seams. The fabric is very strong and doesn’t snag or come apart. It’s also very warm. The cat loves it and doesn’t want me to touch it. That’s never happened before!
I would recommend this item. The fabrics are made of plastic (like most everything else these days) so it’s really warm and should last a long time. I wouldn’t put it in a top loading washing machine due to the foam, or dry it on hot in the dryer but otherwise it seems durable.

Anyone that has attempted to purchase a cat bed or toy knows that you never really know how your cats will react. I ordered this with a specific cat in mind, and as it turns out, she doesn’t care about it at all, but the cat I thought wouldn’t give it a second glance absolutely LOVES IT.
The first thing I noticed upon unpacking is that the hive looks smaller in person than what I expected based on photos. I was concerned initially, as several of my cats are larger framed, but if they want to get it in, they make it work. It just doesn’t give them as much room as I thought it would. I for sure thought they’d have more room to partially stand up or spin around, but it’s a pretty tight fit for my larger cats.
That said, it hasn’t stopped them from using it. The cat that loves it curled up in it and went to sleep right away. This same cat doesn’t use any other cat bed we’ve offered except for the “bowl” at the top of his carpeted cat tower. So for him to climb right into this hive as it say on the floor and then stay in it was a big deal. I think it provides warmth, comfort, and security.
The pillow that sits inside the hive is completely removable. It could be used on its own if your cats don’t want to go inside the hive, but then the bottom of the hive is just a sheer, thin piece of fabric with a bit of treat on the bottom. So while the pillow could be used separately, I wouldn’t suggest using the hive without the pillow inside.
The cool thing is, you can collapse the hive and then it’s just a standard cat bed with raised sides. While you could fit the pillow in it when it’s collapsed, you then essentially lose the raised sides, as the pillow fills that space. But cats can be strange and they may prefer this setup, so it’s worth a try.
None of my cats seemed interested in the collapsed bed but I didn’t keep it that way for long since they liked the hive so much.
The only thing I did notice is that after my cat spent a while in the hive, he started leaving his tongue stick out a tiny bit. If I gently touched his tongue, he would either pull it in or lick several times, and then his tongue would be out again. I honestly think this is just a crazy coincidence and that he has something dental going on, but my husband was concerned at the change we saw in him once he spent time in the hive, so we are going to attempt to wash it in the washing machine and see how that goes. I don’t know that anything in or on this product could cause what we are seeing, but I thought it worth mentioning in case anyone else experiences the same thing. I don’t know if there are chemicals or anything sprayed on it, or if there were loose threads that he could have ingested, I just know he’s not been the same since he was in the hive (And yes, I do have him scheduled to go to the vet and get it addressed). Again, my gut tells me that this has NOTHING to do with the product, and is merely a coincidence – but if I didn’t say anything and someone else experienced this same thing, I would end up wishing I had mentioned it to warn others.
So, assuming my cat’s oral issue has nothing to do with this product, I will say that I otherwise love it. I couldn’t believe how quickly my cat took to it and snuggled up inside, so that’s a win in my book!
