This is a good book to have if you are already somewhat familiar with homeopathy, which works amazingly well on everyone. I have double-checked with a homeopath before giving some of the remedies recommended, not because the book is faulty but because I am not qualified to make a definite diagnosis.

I have Christopher Day’s homeopathy book also and this book I believe is much better for the layman… doesn’t use as many medical terms and is clearly written specifically for the layman. Has sections explaining homeopathy and how to use it as well as the issues surrounding vaccines and a very good and well explained sections explaining which remedies to use when and for what.

I had been looking for a detailed guide to homeopathy for help for the itching one of our dogs had. Wow – talk about excellent guide. The introductory chapters on homeopathy are excellent.
The real help came when my same baby started having serious liver problems and I didn’t know why. With an ALT of over 500, it wasn’t looking good. I wasn’t comfortable with giving her the special dog food containing Ethoxyquin(pesticide in dog food?? – don’t think so). The book recommended Milk Thistle. After talking to the vet, my husband and I began a natural diet and milk thistle immediately. Within a month the ALT was down and in another 2 weeks she was back to normal. Mind you, my little girl is 14 so I can say this book has been a lifesaver. This book along with consulting your vet is definitely worthwhile. You can’t go wrong getting this book for your furry friends.
It’s now April 2003 and now she has a bad heart murmur. After consulting the book and doing more research, found that CoQ10 has been very helpful in alleviating (and in some cases reversing) heart disease in humans. I’ve given her 1 10Mg CoQ10 tablet a day and after a week, she is showing improvement. One sign of a heart murmur is a hacking cough. Her coughs are not as frequent now. This book was certainly worth buying :-).

These two rescue coconuts came with a host of issues. Momo (black & white) had fleas, ear mites, a severe upper respiratory infection, and regurgitation after eating. Chachi (tortie) had severe ear mites, an insanely voracious appetite, anxiety, and constipation. This book has great lifestyle recommendations and clear information on different pathologies and helpful homeopathic (and other) remedies for the issues that allopathic medicine (antibiotics, toxic treatments etc) hasn’t been able to touch. It’s well written, very well researched, concise and easy to read. The author is a vet and homeopath of many years and provides a wealth of information – I’m learning so much about best practices in vet medicine and helping my little bbs live happier, healthier lives <3. Very grateful.

    This author is wonderful.

His book, as well as ones by K. Sheppard, George McLeod, Saxton and Gregory, Llewellen, and Pitcairn are very fine and informative about alternative and homeopathic veterinary medicine.

While you may have to search elsewhere for standard information about anatomy and other things like what amino acids a dog needs, these books contain absolutely invaluable advice about what to do when you wish to save your dog. This differs from the “traditional” veterinary “cure” (often the “solution” being to recommend euthanasia) has failed, or will fail.

    ###############

We were presented with a situation where one of our small dogs had entered phase two (severe, damaging seizures) of canine distemper. We only learned later that this had to be the cause. We had to figure it out.
Toby, a small Maltese, spent his last four days on this earth in, supposedly – the hands of the “best of the best” veterinarians, in our geographical area. $1500 later, we learned that all traditionally-educated veterinary students are taught that there is no hope, from whatever he had.

The next morning after he we agreed to euthanize Toby, I awoke, aware that, forty years ago…..long before accessible internet, I had read of the symptoms our dog exhibited. These symptoms apply to only two diseases.
I am not a doctor. I am not a trained scientist. But, when I referred to many books that I had bought over the years, there it was. I had not yet heard of homeopathy.

The choices that fitted exactly, the symptoms, only applied to two diseases.
One was kennel cough (ruled out) and the other….why did I have to realize it…why not these brilliant and devoted traditionally-trained veterinarians? THEY MISSED IT – CANINE DISTEMPER.

When I called the doctor the day after Toby had been euthanized, and told her my (too late to save him) suspicion, our euthanizing doctor replied, “Oh, my Gosh….I would never have waited four days and seen him suffer like this. Oh, My G.”

    #####################

That is when I knew that we were on our own as we researched and ordered this and that and measured and studied and administered.
My husband helped, going along with my researching this and that, but with absolutely no hope that anything could be done to save them.

All six remaining dogs exhibited the “stage-one signs” of the body trying to rid itself of this virus. Two developed the most severe form, labelled “Hard Pad.”

All are alive today….four months later when the disease is supposedly guaranteeing that at least some of them would by now be dead. Incubation if about 4 to 9 days according to many authorities. After that passes quietly and not usually observed….the disease is rampant within the animal and is declared hopelessly out of control.

We had to start the search to learn about Canine Distemper Virus. What we learned is that there are these authors that I have mentioned, who were traditionally trained and became grief-stricken over many years of each of their own veterinary practice experiences, feeling agony at being unable to save these poor, doomed, horribly sick, dogs.

They decided to look into alternative means to save them and began succeeding.

    ################

It is evident that veterinarians never go into the study of veterinary medicine to get rich quickly.
They are dedicated and remarkable people. But they have been taught incorrectly because of who provides drugs and teachers at the top veterinary schools, we have learned.

The information is out there. The authors of these books found experienced homeopaths to teach them by example, and started writing books about these methods that many people scoff at, out of being rigidly informed of the hopelessness of the situations.

If you need it, this author and all the others I have mentioned will guide you well:

Avoid B vitamin foods, avoid all kibble, avoid a lot of exercising for the animal as it spreads this faster. Try to stop this virus at phase one after symptoms showing that the system is attempting to get rid of it via the nasal passages. It is too late when neurological damage in form of seizure activity is exhibited, I suppose.

The answers are out there. Vitamins A, D, E, C , olive leaf, unrefined coconut oil, (this is a recent discovery) and many other things including Vitamin D…will not kill it but will invade the virus to give access to something else to destroy the cholesterol source for replication of the virus.

Online, we also learned that there may well be a connection of this deadly virus to the measles virus, as well as Multiple Sclerosis being associated with it. It is vital to give the dog or dogs Vitamin D and also follow up with a kidney protector as too much Vitamin D-3 will possibly cause kidney stones that can cause excruciating pane.

Do not give too much Vitamin A (from real source of fish oil, not a synthetic which won’t work) as too much can cause swelling of liver cells that will burst.

But the information is out there now. A lot of it is on the internet.

    ###############

Amber Technologies, Native American Remedies and CelleTech are companies that will help you. Go for the non-traditional thinking.
According to traditional thinking: our five other dogs did not stand a chance of all surviving this dread disease.
“There is absolutely no cure for this. Euthanasia is recommended.”

Note that they ARE ALL ALIVE AND WELL after four intensive months of our treating them and building up their immune systems after this occurred. While we may never be able to kill this (or any) virus, by building up their bodies with proper food, avoiding certain ones and thus starving the virus, the hope is that the virus, with a life of 3 1/2-to-5 months, will die, being unable to replicate itself. We can then rebuild the dogs’ diet by subtly and carefully re-starting the B vitamins that they needed to be deprived of, to stop the virus’s ability to recreate itself and go on and on.
    This is fantastic.

So, to repeat, we have it figured that we must starve the virus’s ability to replicate while residing in body cells as it will do, using the cholesterol within to do the replicating.

Since the virus appears to be lipid (fat)-coated: administering olive leaf, or Vitamin C, or colloidal silver, or monolauric acid in unrefined coconut oil and other things….if these can cut through the fatty, slippery coating, then something else can get rid of the excess cholesterol and suppress replication.
These ingredients can only last till flushed out of the body…beta carotene….rather than being stored….for example, and need to be administered every four hours.

By reading books like Dr. Hamilton’s and these other authors I listed, and reading on the internet about research in other countries, etc., we have managed to keep all five of our remaining dogs not only alive, but have overcome the most virulent form called “Hard Pad” in one, and are on our way with the other, who has it most severely. It is interesting how it gradually absorbs itself. We have great hopes. The virus must be starved till it lives its life-cycle without replicating…this takes from 3 1/2 months to 5 months. We are at the end now, of our fourth month and they are all alive and well. We keep our fingers crossed. We would be absolutely nowhere without a source like this man’s book.

We sincerely hope that this will help someone. Without the internet and especially, without Amazon, we would never, in time….not ever, have found the help that has saved our treasures….our six remaining little dogs. Four Maltese, a rescued toy poodle, and a Shih Tzu.

Such an amazing work by Dr. Hamilton. As an amateur, this has become my ‘go-to’ book to finding a remedy for any symptom I notice in the animals we look after. Sincere thanks to Dr. Hamilton for this service.
