As a long-time fan of the “Alien” franchise, I found “Enemy of My Enemy” to be a gripping and thrilling addition to the universe. The novel does a fantastic job of capturing the dark, claustrophobic atmosphere we’ve come to expect from this series.

The characters are well-developed, and the pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The book introduces an intriguing conflict where human and alien foes are forced to face a greater, unexpected enemy. The storyline feels fresh while staying true to the terrifying unpredictability of the Xenomorphs.

What stands out to me is how the author balances action with character-driven moments, allowing us to connect with the protagonists while still delivering those iconic, intense sequences fans of the Alien series will love. The dialogue is snappy, and the tension builds in all the right places. Without spoiling anything, the final act is especially satisfying, delivering both surprises and some well-executed action sequences.

Overall, “Alien: Enemy of My Enemy” is a must-read for fans of sci-fi horror and anyone invested in the Alien saga. Whether you’re a long-time follower of the franchise or just starting, this book provides plenty of thrills and chills.

Alien: Enemy of my Enemy is the best recent release in the “Aliens” universe. It’s an Aliens story that focuses on the ALIENS. No ham-fisted modern politics, no beating the reader over the head with an agenda; just a group of survivors bring pursued by a relentless killing machine, and their party dwindling over time.

The characters are fleshed out and feel like actual characters. There’s a strong female lead who earns her spot as the hero, a cast of Colonial Marines who fit the bill as the “ultimate badasses” until they’re not, and a group of supporting characters who you will quickly grow attached to, and then have your heart strings tugged at as they are picked off one by one.

Enemy of my Enemy is easily my favorite of the newest releases of the Alien series over the recent years. I hope that we see more work from Ms. Sangiovanni in this universe in the future. Well done, Mary!!

After the debacle of Colony War’s “Brexit in Space London” , the lacklustre alien-free Inferno Falls and Vasquez’s 400+ page novel where only around a quarter of it actually contains any Alien action (and even then it’s muddied and rushed, but I cover that on my review of that book), Enemy of my Enemy is a good, solid step in taking the series back to basics; Alien research, company dealings and a spattering of acid blood is enough to (hopefully) get the series back on track.

The characters we’re supposed to like are likeable; the shady ones not so much, giving a strength to the writing that has lacked from the last few offerings.

While it may still suffer from the “this is a character from a previous story”, it’s not as in-you-face about it being a descendent of Ripley and honestly, I hope to see more in the series from this author, though I’m not sure if that will happen – Unlike the early novels where they were all done by the same authors with only some variance in them, a lot of the more recent ones don’t seem to get a return gig (with a few notable exceptions). Hopefully Mary gets the chance to return to this universe.

Finally, we get back to what we all love about the Aliens novels! After very disappointing outings in both Aliens Vasquez (which barely spent any time with our favorite Latina bad ass) and the extremely drawn out snooze fest of Alien Inferno’s Fall (which I REALLY wanted to like), we finally have an actual story with our favorite Xenomorphs! I appreciated the immediate action and suspense. This novel, unlike the most recent Aliens outings, is able to deliver the goods right off the bat while still providing character development, world building, and a compelling story. Not since Phalanx have we had an Aliens novel be so engaging (not to throw any shade on Cold Forge or Into Charybdis – loved them too). If you are a fan of the Aliens universe, I cannot recommend this enough.

This addition to the Aliens universe has a few new surprises and story elements, but its strength is really in being another well-told version of what works for this franchise. Some people love the horror of the original Alien more, and some love the sci-fi action of the sequel, Aliens. This book is definitely more for the latter. It’s got some good characters, a twist or two on some of the favorite themes, and lots of Colonial Marines shooting xenomorphs with pulse rifles. SanGiovanni got the pulse rifle action right! I’m so happy…
This story continues the overall plot of several of the Aliens novels that came out the last few years (not including the anomaly, Aliens: Vasquez), with some answers as to who has been attacking the colony worlds with planet-wide bombings. This aspect of Aliens lore is in support of the current RPG out there, which I think is an interesting way to create a cohesive, wider world. There is bonus scenario for that game in the back of the print version of this book.
I’m happy to add this story to my library.

Well written. Characters are fleshed out and multidimensional without their stories or development bogging down the pace. No one makes stupid decisions, as so often happens in other aliens books. Some decisions made by the characters are not exactly tactically sound, but the these choices are forced by circumstance, not made by whim or stupidity.
The main character is a strong female lead who still exhibits emotion, vulnerability, maternalism and fear. However, her fear doesn’t stop her from doing what must be done to ensure the survival of her team. An enjoyable read.

I’ve read some of Mary SanGiovanni’s other books, so I was curious to see how she’d play around in the Alien universe. She did not disappoint. I wanted Colonial Marines fighting Xenomorphs, and she certainly delivered. She has a horror author’s eye for disturbing details.

It works as a standalone if you’ve only seen the movies, but it has plenty of references to other novels and comics to satisfy continuity junkies. If they have any sense, they should shove a pile of money in front of her and say “Write a trilogy.”

I love reading these books. Fast flowing and full of action and you don’t know who will make out alive. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Cant wait for more.

Wow, totally blown away by this. It’s my absolute favourite Alien book of all time, and that includes all the comics and graphic novels from Dark Horse, which I’ve been reading since they came out.

I’ve never read anything by Sangiovanni before (but I’m a big fan of her husband, Brian Keene) so this has made me a fan of her work now too.

It starts strong with exciting alien carnage but quickly turns into been there, done that as far as the scenario goes. The characters are mostly bland, many are introduced only to be killed off a few chapters later. The characters make irresponsible, illogical and plain boneheaded decisions simply to serve the plot. Still, it has entertainment value, with some good, gory alien action, so not a total waste. I’d say for completists only. I won’t likely read it again and will probably donate it.

I thought the atmosphere was well done. Things felt bleak and insurmountable. The characters were well done and believable. The story was interesting .
