I work on, and work with, Dell laptops as a profession in a corporate environment and the reason I decided to go with the 17″ boiled down to one thing: longevity. Out of the hundreds of different laptops I support, the Dell Precision seems to be the only one that holds up the longest, is easily upgradable, and offers the best bang for your buck when it comes to refurbished or recertified. Not saying that buying new is a mistake, but you are really getting moderately new tech for a fraction of the price. Memory and solid state drives can be switched out in about 5 minutes, and the 7740 has not two, but 4 expandable memory and SSD nVME slots and is upgradable to 128GB of DDR4.
The dedicated (and also upgradable?) RTX 3000 comes in handy too along with the 6 core hypthreaded Intel i7 CPU. As long you as you’re not playing one of those newish 1st person shooter games in 4K, you are guaranteed to love this as your work or gaming PC.

It arrived today. I plugged in the charger to let it charge a few minutes before powering it on. The power button didn’t do anything, so I let it charge a while longer. Still nothing. I pulled the battery to do a soft reset, and got it to start. But it shut off as I was doing the windows setup. I restarted it and it gave me an error for low battery and charger not connected, even though it was connected. So I figured it would need a new charger and I could get the seller to send one. I contacted Amazon, they gave me the contact number for Dell, saying they were the actual seller which didn’t appear to be correct on Amazon . And Dell said they aren’t the seller, contact Amazon. When I tried to connect to ECO-TECH LLC, the actual seller, I got an annoying chatbot where there was no way to actually contact the seller, every option I chose sent me back to Amazon customer service. So the whole thing is going back. Bad parts and bad support from Amazon.

Here is the description for the Amazon webpage: Products correspond to one of the following cosmetic conditions: Excellent condition, no signs of cosmetic damage when held 30 centimetres away; Good condition, light scratches, barely visible when holding the device 30 centimetres away and imperceptible to touch; Acceptable condition, light scratches, clearly visible when holding the device 30 centimetres away and perceptible to touch.
Here, in contrast, is the report from my IT department.
Regarding the laptop, some of the clips on the bottom casing are broken so the battery door doesn’t stay on properly, and the internal speakers are damaged. Also, the laptop is supposed to have a 240 watt charger, but the charger Candace dropped off can only output 180W. An error message is displayed when booting the laptop warning that the charger is not providing enough power which may lower the laptop’s performance.

Received in excellent condition as advertised. About half price of a new one makes this a great deal. Will do the same again if and when I need a new computer.
