I purchased this extender based on the promise that it was specifically built to support multiple devices…not so much, in fact, it didn’t seem to be able to support much of anything. The first one I purchased didn’t work at all, and after spending a ridiculous amount of time myself and later with their technical support we all surmised that the unit I had received was defective, none of us were ever able to get it to connect, let alone support multiple devices. To their credit they told me to return the defective one and immediately sent me another, which I was able to get up and running right away. Sadly, I found it wasn’t much better than the $45 extender I had purchased previously, it wasn’t any faster, the devices connected to it lagged and in fact it consistently disconnected. I finally gave up, unplugged it and went back to the other device. I gave the tech support 2 stars because (as I’ve found with most tech support) they assumed I was an idiot and knew nothing about tech so treated me as such while providing me with their ‘service’. Not only were they condescending, I was told that in order that in order to ensure the device continued to run properly once it was up & running I would need to sign up with their tech support service at an annual fee of $199.99 (more than the device itself). Then they proceeded to tell me that when I received the replacement device I needed to call them to assist me with the set-up, “DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL IT YOURSELF.” Huh. I can only assume this was so they could charge me the first, of what I’m sure they hoped would be many years of annual tech support fees. Um, NOPE. I can’t in good conscience recommend this device, in my experience it wasn’t any better than an extender that was a fraction of the cost of this one and the company seemed to want to gouge me out of even more money down the road.

It looks like a solid unit, but it did not perform as expected. No way to assign a fixed IP, and the setup is very convoluted. I have the tp-link extender, which I feel is much easier to set up, and you can assign a fixed IP to it. Also you can place the TP-link unit much further from the router thus extending your range. It looks like this unit does not have the signal sensitivity of other extenders

I upgraded from REC33A to REC44M specifically for the guest “internet only” feature. Unfortunately it appears that when connected to guest WIFI the “internet only” still allows access to my router at 192.168.1.1 and other addresses on this internal network. The web interface is available on 2 ip addresses, one on the 2.4GHz network and one on the 5GHZ. If you’re connected to the 5GHz guest network then you can still get to the 2.4GHz admin interface although you can’t get to the 5GHz one. Hence the only internal ip address that appears to be blocked is the extender’s web interface on the specific network..

Thank you for your request. I have recently heard back regarding this issue, and it does appear that this option should unfortunately not be available on our extenders, including the REC44M, as only routers have the ability to restrict access to “Internet Only”. I am currently awaiting a response as to how this will be corrected, and I do believe that it will be with a firmware update to our devices to remove that option. We will also be updating our documentation. I do sincerely apologize for the delay and the inconvenience that this has caused. As soon as I’ve received further word on this I will be happy to contact you and let you know what I have obtained. My sincerest apologies once again.

Full disclosure, I received this from a friend for free
Tl:DR – excellent and does exactly what it says
Cons; kind of – so the one thing I was worried about with this when I got it was the size. Really, it looks like the worlds biggest wall wart and it kind of is. But while that is true, I actually found it to not be a problem at all and even beneficial over other designs. I have attached a couple of pictures and while you can see it is a kind of wall wart, the designer did an excellent job of making the other outlet useful, this is not always common with wall warts. Now you won’t get another giant plug in there, but no problem for another cord or extension cord or power strip.
Also, I found this much more preferable to having to find a flat surface for it with a long cord or having to put screws and mount it to the wall myself. So in the end, my original concern turned out to be a benefit.
A quick note: I am a little tech savvy, but not extensive by any means, I am getting close to 50 and grew up with computers and electronics, but definitely not my major skill set or profession.
I opened the box and there are very few things needed, unit, antenna and instructions – pictured below – I read through the instructions and they were pretty clear, but I also read there was an installation support video and being a more visual learner I watched it. it was helpful, but only really for learning style as the instructions that come with the unit are clear and give all the same info http://www.ampedwireless.com/support/model/rec44m.html
Setup – I followed the instructions, attached the antenna plugged it in and went on my laptop and connected – worked exactly as the instructions and video said – no problems and super easy to do. I actually did the setup twice, because I had a problem with 5k from my main router.
Signal – I live in the Los Angeles area and distance isn’t the actual issue we face, it is the massive amount of other signals as well as all the electrical and other buildings. I have some dead spots in my backyard and garage which are issues and why I wanted an extender. This may be that Mu-mimo thing
After the easy setup, I got it working and have full signal almost everywhere on my property – even in the dead areas – I think some of the metal bars on the house made a partial Faraday cage in those areas – or just created issues.
The Amped wireless AC2600 works much better than my main router and pretty much everything stays connected to it.
if you are looking for a wi-fi extender, this is easy to setup, will cut through all the other noise and give you plenty of signal. Does exactly as it says
