The media could not be loaded.
The title of my review explains it all. I’ve only had it for a month and it’s already messed up. It spits water and makes noise yet it’s supposed to be silent. I purchased this for my betta and cherry shrimp tank.

I put this one to the test with clearing up a brand new tank. They are always hazy at first no matter that you do (unless of course you have a bare bottom tank). It failed and I had to get another filter in to help it do the job. This was in a 29 long. It is quiet once it get going. Designed for shrimp as it says and would even work for Bettas since the flow, though medium strong is still calm enough to work for just about any kind of fish.
It can be a hang on back or work in the tank completely. It would work for turtles and lower water level aquariums. It was a bit on the large side for my taste for what it does as well. Keep in mind that is going to be a factor.

I love the filter, but this is the second one that has started making an awful noise. It’s far too loud and irritating to ignore or live with so I will have to replace it.

I can see where shrimp may like to hide in the filter output if they have limited places to hide in your tank (remember shrimp need LOTS of plants & crevices to hide).
If you have an issue with your shrimp sneaking into the filter this way here are some tips
1) see if you have enough material & decorations in your tank. Again they need lots of places to hide.
2) put a piece of filter bag over the output spout. Very easy fix & if you use part of your filter from your previous filter, like I did, you get the added benefit of keeping some of the beneficial bacteria from your original filter material!!
So far so good, nice flow, low profile, & very quiet.

I like this filter for my 6-9 gallon nano tanks since it has a good size chamber for your filter media. I discard the enclosed filter pad and replace with my own biomax filter materials and several gauges of foam. The flow is not super strong and perfect for a 10 gallon tank or under with small fish. I run about 10 of them. I also use it as filter for my 20 gallons in conjuction with a small internal filter that has a stronger flow but smaller media chamber, perfect combo. I prefer the look of an internal filter than a hang on for aquascape set ups.

I have a male Betta fish in a 10 gallon – he is the only fish in the tank – and this filter is gentle enough for him. He doesn’t get blown around and he isn’t bothered by it. It’s quiet, slow flow and works decent. I don’t think this is the filter for a high bioload but it works perfect for my needs. The only thing is that I can’t get the cover/lid to stay on. It’s not a huge deal, I just set it over the top but it’s somewhat annoying when I accidentally knock it off and into the tank. That’s my only complaint. It works well for me otherwise and has been going strong for a while. Good buy for the price for a betta tank.
