My grandson Oli, he is seven and has Cerebral Palsy, loves it and found it easy to handle and understand. He’s very much into Bats and this book was ideal.

I have been disappointed at how poorly many picture books have been formatted for the Kindle HD. The whole reason I bought the HD over the cheaper, black and white kindle was for picture books, and unfortunately, it’s impossible to know how the books will look before you purchase. This review is intended for those who wish to know about the quality of the formatting in advance.
The National Geographic Kids series is by far the best series of nonfiction books for kids that I have seen on the Kindle. The pictures are beautiful, and kids love reading the books. I gave Bats 4 stars for that reason, but there are some serious shortcomings to this book and the series as a whole. National Geographic is not using the new technology to its full potential.
Pros:
The pictures are beautiful.
On most pages, the words are large enough to read on their own (without double tapping).
The pictures are beautiful.
Kids just love these books.
Cons:
The dictionary and translation features are disabled. This is a huge omission for a nonfiction book with some difficult vocabulary words.
The book can only be viewed horizontally.
There is no professional narration. Kids love books like this, but there are so many difficult words that young kids really need an adult to read it to them. Otherwise, they’re just looking at pictures. I would be so excited if National Geographic Kids would make Immersion Reading available for this series. That would enable ALL children to read their books.

A Christmas present for my Granddaughter to go with the Bat House I got her. She can read the book on her own to her younger brother and teach him as she learns
Luis E. –
Buena lectura enfocada a un público infantil.
Paul Singleton –
This is a great book for kids to young adults. Helps people understand how helpful bats are to our world. They are very misunderstood. The wide variety of bats is amazing. Their shapes, sizes and looks are amazing. I don’t see how you can not be fascinated by bats.

This was part of a “bat-themed” birthday gift for my granddaughter, who is currently a fan of creepy-crawlies of all types. The gift was a hit, including this book. It is softcover, relatively short, but up to usual Nat Geo standards – colorful high res photos of bats dominate, accompanied by age appropriate educational information about bats. She took the book to bed with her on her birthday – high praise from an8 year old.

Great real images in color, informative, easy to read and understand, and fun!

I bought several of this books for my children, they love them so much that they have now a big collection, and I love the fact that they actually read them and are learning a lot, they come with different reading levels for each child reading skills.
