Great camera but beware it will eat batteries, My R6 gets almost 3 times the shots as this does. my old D4S can last 4 days on the same battery this one is a battery hog and that is after going into the menus and turning all extra stuff off.. (constant focus, image review lowering the timers etc etc etc )
I also had focus issues and tried all of the 4 settings as well as auto canon tried to help me via email support, I sent them screen shots of the images and settings and they were very little help, they told me to send it in to canon repair? really? also the eye focus is in the early stages if you have glasses forget it..
to track birds properly i do not even use the eye focus anymore i use tracking with zone as the other focus set up can not even grab a bird in flight 40 feet away the focal point misses it on every playback i have it set to show the focus point.. again my R6 does 80% better tracking birds

This camera does EVERYTHING at an amazing level. If your looking at this camera you’ve heard about the things it does well but the reviews just don’t do it justice. it is FAST, VERY FAST!! And the dynamic range is amazing. The autofocus is insane, even they eye tracking is spot on and fast! And since the megapixels are only 24 it doesn’t hog memory the way my R5 does. It’s noticeably lighter than my R5 with it’s battery grip installed which is another plus.

And well I should be for the price 🙂
I knew what it could do. Been a Canon 1 Series shooter. But this is smaller than expected and lighter and outperforms all my old camers in so many way. More pleased than I even expected.

I really don’t know what else to say but I’ll try. I had been shooting with two R5 bodies since they came out and decided to sell one and buy the R3. It is an amazing camera. It is heavier than the R5 with the Canon battery grip and two batteries but the features and performance of the R3 outweigh the few extra (but noticeable) ounces.

Outstanding body with lightning af and pin sharp quality.

Well I looked at plenty of reviews that claimed that the R3 didn’t have overheating issues like the Eos R5 so I spent the extra money on this camera and discovered that either these reviewers were completely wrong or I have a defective unit. I sent the camera to get repaired under warranty and within a week they sent me the same camera I sent in and said that they tested the overheating and didn’t find any issues.
I’m extremely dissapointed that if the repair guys at Canon are correct then…
1. This camera overheats in less than 1 minute of running 4k 120fps and within seconds if you’ve already been recording in 4k 60 fps with your camera.
2. This camera overheats in about 24 minutes of 4k 60fps
3. This camera overheats too quickly shooting 6k 60 fps log.
It’s a shame because the 4k 120fps looks even more beautiful on this camera than the Eos R5 but it’s plagued with severe overheating issues. Do not buy it! It’s best that you wait or go with another Brand until Canon is able to fix the overheating issues.

The Canon EOS R3 is an impressive mirrorless camera but, it is defiantly not in the same class as the 1Dx. It lacks several buttons and levers like the 1D’s vertical grip lock.
If this is your first mirrorless camera and you shoot portraits or still life there is a learning curve.
Out of the box, it is set for 30 frames per second JPEG images, sRGB color space, and focus on the nearest object. You need to change the default settings to shoot RAW, Adobe RGB, single frame, and focus point. Also, the viewfinder simulated the light level resulting in a black image using modeling lights. With a 1,000+ page manual, finding the right settings is a bit time consuming. To get a viewable image you must disable Display Simulation.
The electronic shutter at 30 frames per second sounds like an electrical short circuit. I shot over 300 photos before realizing it was shooting 30 FPS. Set to single frame, it has a typical electronic shutter sound that can be turning off.
I wear glasses and could not get the eye detection focus to work. I typically use focus points. The R3 autofocus is fast and very accurate except for some uniformly colored surfaces.
Using the Canon RF 24-105mm lens, the image quality surpasses my 1Dx MII even though the R3 sensor has about the same number of pixels.
The R3 uses the same battery as the 1Dx. Battery life is less than the 1Dx, but that is to be expected since the battery powers a larger screen and electronic viewfinder.
If you have older model speedlights or strobe transceivers, you will need the Canon AD-E1 adapter. I could not use my PocketWizard Plus III until I bought the adapter. Stobe firing has been flawless using AD-E1.

Upgraded from a Canon 1Dx to the R3. I mostly shoot professional sports photos and needed a quick replacement when one of cameras died on me. The R3 works great with the fast rate and quick focus. My biggest complaint is that you don’t know if you will get a US version.

This is our second Canon R3, we were so impressed with the first-we purchased a second. The 24 megapixel sensor for photos renders beautifully with virtually zero high ISO colour noise or ugly artifacts at ISO 12,800 and still performs nicely at 25,600.
For videos, the ease of switching back and forth, utter lack of overheating and variable frame rates without crop up to 4k 120p is fantastic in videography.
We use the R3’s for portrait shoots, events, and weddings. There’s more than enough resolution, incredibly high readout speeds make shooting with the electronic shutter feasible for any context including mixed lighting.
Again, I can not emphasize enough the utility of the hybrid functionality, the ability to switch with ease between photo and video shooting is a wedding photographer/videographers dream.
