I research and study watches before I purchase. I am very hard to please have returned many. This watch is great and is currently my favorite, above and beyond a very nice g-shock aviator. This is like a hybrid between a g-shock and casual dress. I like having digital and analog. I like the digital portion having a light. This watch has this my g-shock does not. Analog hands are luminous not the best but satisfactory. Here is what I had to have in my watch: light weight, not too thick to catch under my motorcycle jacket, analog hands with second hand. Digital part having stopwatch and timer, day date, of which can be seen on digital screen both day and night. This has black letters/numbers over light background. Most g-shock have dark background for digital portion so very hard to read in some light situations and not at all at night. Many g-shock the digital portion does not have nightlight. This watch does. I also required a hourly chime and at least two alarms. This has 5 alarms and hourly chime. Compass is best taken off held horizontally to ground.
Extras I didn’t have to have: thermometer all these watch temperature sensors only work off your wrist they do not work when you wear it that’s just how it is! moon phase numerical expression -note Manuel does not have a chart had to find online to know what number corresponds with moon phase. It has official sunrise time and sunset time for the day. All based on your lat and long you enter into the watch.
Manuel is easy to follow just follow directions. This watch is almost dressy and almost rugged looking like I said it’s like a hybrid between the two. You can wear to church or the woods. Watch fits very light and good fit. I cut the end off the comfortable plastic band as I have skinny wrist.

Had this watch for 5 years, first battery lasted about 3 years, changed the battery and its still going strong. Never had any problems with the watch, holds time really well. My favorite feature is the compass, really works well when set up properly. I like how this watch is not over the top huge but rather just the right size, and the rubberized band is comfortable. I wear it everyday and it has wore well, it does have some scratches but nothing that interferes with seeing the functions. I actually just bought a second one to have one for work and one for everything else because I like it that much.

Looks really nice and functions well. The compass feature is really cool. The watch commands are set up on different buttons than my previous Casio watches were so it takes a little bit of getting used to.
I will note that the watch has a weak spot by the blue wording on the bands at the connection point. I’ve had mine detach on two separate occasions. On the bright side, both times it disconnected there was quite a bit of force applied to the watch band (more than diving would do, think mosh pit), and nothing actually broke… I was able to reattach it with success both times. The watch is very water proof, I’ve not had any fog under the glass as I’ve had with other watches.
It looks much more expensive than it is, and it performs well. The compass is fairly accurate.

COMPASS
I bought this watch to use the compass while navigating the curvy streets of a foreign city or while out hiking. Other reviews mentioned variable compass accuracy, but I found it actually well calibrated straight out of the box. While indoor compass use isn’t important to me, the watch surprisingly performed accurately while inside my concrete loft and office, whereas the LAD weather watch I purchased (and returned) did not. I think that’s a good indicator of reliability while navigating denser urban areas.
USE
You have to memorize which buttons do what functions as they aren’t labeled. The manual is a bit hard to understand, but after a few minutes I figured it out. Customizing the digital display (to show the date or time), switching time zones based on city names ordered by longitude, fixing the time, and setting alarms is all fairly logical and easy.
FORM FACTOR
The strap isn’t of the highest quality plastic, but it does its job. The glass face of the watch is not recessed, so it is more likely to get scratched.
VERSUS THE LAD WEATHER WATCH
I bought both, but returned the LAD watch. This watch’s interface is easier to use, the face easier to read during the day and night, and compass both easier to read and more accurate. The LAD watch had a nicer band, but how it clamped down the extra length of strap required fiddling around every time I put the watch on. The LAD watch measures elevation fairly accurately, as well as barometric pressure, but I’m more likely to get lost with a faulty compass than by being unaware of my elevation. 🙂
THERMOMETER
It just registers wrist temperature, obviously. Gimmick.

After much looking & a week’s use, am more satisfied than hoped. Everything works, no obvious design weaknesses… but don’t lose instruction book!. Calibrate the compass (p.34-37) before deciding whether this (nicely done) feature works. Points of dial could be luminescent like hands (minor). LED on window-only is functionally modest light (vs. whole watch face) but window is readable, and design choice presumably saves battery (analog hands lose time on cheaper Casios). All else equal, would trade moon age for tide tables if I were king (but maybe I neglect the worth of knowing moon age… or tides take more chip capacity.) Outer rim on face IS a bit cheap… resin crystal likewise, but you can’t ask everything for nothing… GOOD VALUE, NICE PRODUCT – recommended.
