Sad to say that these sturdy stakes rust. I own glampsites (luxury camping) and whatever I use for my business stays where I put it for a while unlike regular camping where tents go up for a few days and then dismantled. It’s difficult to yank rusted stakes out of the ground, so much so that some of the green tangs broke. I’m still on a learning curve with my business and these taught me to look for the words “rust proof” in the description.

These are top of the line stakes. A two hour storm whipped up without much warning and these guys never budged in 30 mph winds. That nice metal tang at the top takes a beating without damaging the green plastic tops. I misplaced a hammer to pry them out of the ground and used one of them to pry the rest of the stakes from the ground. I would never have tried that with the cheapie stakes that come with even the best tents. These things are solid and heavy. Definitely happy with my choice. I bought extra to share with camping buddies – there’s always someone who can’t find their stakes or throw away bent ones and need more. They’re probably going to do just what I did and buy these things. There’s so many to choose from but trust me, you want these.

Got these just a few days before a weekend trip. I took the time to attach loops of nylon cord around them, as I was too cheap to invest in a special “stake puller”, and figured the cord loops would give me the leverage to get them out. Be warned — 9 year old son who was so proud of staking out his own tent put one of his through a tree root (using a small hammer). We had to get the maintenance guy with a full size crowbar and ball peen hammer to retrieve the stake, which only slightly bent in the process! (If we could have worked the tent loop over the plastic head, we would have just left it). We did break the plastic hook off of that stuck stake, but for the pressure we were exerting, that was no big deal.

Second trip was to a state park with pea gravel tent pads. Again the OEM stakes just wouldn’t stay put – I’d stake one corner and when I went to pull the tent taut, the stakes just dragged through the gravel. I pulled out these bad boys, and that tent was not going ANYWHERE at that point!

These were driven in to pretty hard soil & tree roots where the OEM shepherd’s hook stakes for one tent, and the triangular aluminum stakes for the other tent just refused to cooperate. Tents stayed tight during a summer thunderstorm, and having added cord loops to them really helped with the removal. You’ll need a hammer or a mallet to get them in — pushing with your shoe isn’t going to cut it unless you are on super soft mulch or gravel.

Bought these to supplement the cheaper stakes that came with our tent. They worked great and were better quality than the original ones. Used once and no complaints so far.

Strength over plastic pegs. Use a steel hammer rather than a plastic mallet.

These are awesome tent pegs. I have a dead blow hammer for putting these in. Ever since we broke our awning due to a freak wind blowing through the camp site where we were, we decided to get some quality pegs. After reading a few reviews and watching videos, we decided these are what we needed. Since buying them, we’ve had a few instances of gusts of wind trying to lift the awning, but the pegs have held firm. They take a beating, but I think they’ll last longer than the cheap dead-blow hammer I bought

When I purchased a Coleman Hooligan 3 Tent for a holiday camping trip, it came with the usual thin, L-shaped stakes that were easy to bend with my bare hands. Before the trip I ended up buying a set of the Coleman 10-inch steel stakes to replace all of the original stakes that came with my tent.

Just by looking at the new steel stakes, you can tell that there’s a big difference. The steel stakes are heavy, almost twice as long, a with a larger diameter compared to the stock stakes, which helped when some of my stake positions were on softer soil; there was no way that the thin stock stakes would stay in place, but the extra thickness, weight, and length of the steel stakes grabbed a good hold to the ground.

The molded ends have a hole and a tab to make tying down tent ropes a breeze. The hole is also meant to be used with Coleman’s tent stake puller, which I also bought in a set along with a rubber mallet, tent brush and dustpan (here is the item: Coleman Tent Kit )

At about $4/set of 4, that comes out to one dollar per stake. My tent needed 12 stakes, but larger tents (such as family-sized, multiple room tents) will need more stakes, so the cost can go up fast – this is the only reason why I didn’t give them a full 5-stars. Other than that, the 10″ steel stakes outdo the stock stakes on all levels.

I purchased the tent stakes to hold tarps in place on the ground. These work perfectly . Have not used them for a tent so I can’t say if they are good for that.

At $2.00 per four stakes, this is a great deal. Local stores seem to always want to charge me $1.00 per stake, so when I saw these on Amazon I picked up $20 worth. I’m replacing all of my cheap, thin, bent, weak tent stakes with these. I have had some of these for years, and while people say the plastic is “prone to breaking”, I’ve found that to be slightly unfair. The plastic will break if you run this stake all the way into some thick ground and then try to pry it out by just the tab, but if you use it correctly and leave a good couple of inches above ground (remember to run it in at an angle so the metal shaft itself is what holds the tent in place instead of the plastic end) then you can pull it out easily and they’ll last for a good long time.

I’ll never use those old cheap stakes again. I love these things and think that anyone who owns a tent should immediately purchase some to replace all of their crap included tent stakes. Your other option is to just buy a bunch of these really large nails and bend them into the L-shape of a typical tent stake, but it’s a lot less work to buy these.

I use these for a farmers market tent, and they work great. They go into grass easily, and pull out easily with the finger holds. They don’t require a hammer or gloves unless the soil is very compacted. Put them in at a strong angle for a little more support.
