I’m no expert on violins, but my kids were taking piano and guitar lessons and expressed an interest in strings, so I browsed Amazon and settled on this Cremona.

It comes in an attractive green felt- (or some synthetic material) lined carrying case with an embedded humidity detector, bridge, strings, bow, and rosin block.

I watched a YouTube video to install the bridge, downloaded a violin tuner from iTunes and tuned up. The pegs slipped a bit, so I bought a bottle of peg drops a few weeks later and now they hold firmly as intended.

Embarrassing but I learned a violin makes no sound except scratching noises until you rosin the bow! Now everything’s set up, and while I couldn’t tell a Stradivarius from a Cremona to save my life, this violin sounds just fine for a starter, and kid’s are comfortable with the 1/2 size. Paid $136.50 in March 2011.

The title sums it up. Don’t buy this. The “outfit” includes a used bow from the trash can.

This violin is good for what we paid for it. The color it came in was not as represented. It ended up being a putrid mixture of brown & olive green – not really a nice violin look. However, it is for our 4 year old so it doesn’t really matter. The sound is also what you might expect from something so inexpensive. The good part is that I’ve seen violins with far worse craftsmanship. This one has a fair sound to it, it’s solid and not a bad little instrument.

The instrument is great for its price and beginner’s level. I just don’t like the small space for the violin. It’s too small for putting the shoulder rest in. Mendini’s case has a much bigger hole for the violin and it has enough space for the shoulder rest. Other than that, the pegs are slippery for tuning.
So I had to take each peg out, rubbed with rosin at the end and retread the strings. It works like magic. Tuning becomes so much easier. It’s a little tricky to put the A string on because the hole on the peg is tiny and it is at the very top. The bow is actually pretty nice with plenty of white washed horse hair. I bought 1 16 size violin for my four year old daughter. 1 10 is a little too big for her still. For a violin this small it works fine. I can play simple songs from the Suzuki repertoire and enjoy it’s sound. Overall I am please with this tiny instrument. It’s definitely easier to handle and sounds nicer than the other cheaper brand we bought before.

I purchased the SV-150 Premier Student Violin 1/10-size for my 3.5 year old as her first violin. We just got it today and tuned it and I did a little playing (as much as I could since my hands are way too big for it). I was impressed with the sound from such a small instrument. I showed her how to hold the violin and bow and it is the perfect size for her (her neck to palm was approximately 15 inches). She is excited that it looks as pretty and *real* as my much more expensive full size violin. When putting rosin on the new bow I had to use my “broken in” rosin to really get it coated properly instead of the new rosin included.

If my daughter keeps up an interest in playing we will purchase the same violin in the next size up.

The violin arrived only two days after I ordered it. This violin is quite beautifully made. (We own 3 other violins)The case is fantastic–nicely padded, with plenty of extra storage room! The bow is excellent. (just like my 50$ bow, but smaller to fit 1/2 size instrument The bridge comes wrapped and secured under the tailpiece (not installed), which is the way a violin SHOULD be shipped, by the way. If a buyer is not familiar with violins, they would do well to let a store technician or a teacher install the bridge and do the first tuning and adjusting, because this instrument is NOT ready to play right out of the box. That’s typical of any string purchase. The customers who wrote poor reviews of this instrument, in my humble estimation, didn’t know much about violins or how to get the adjustments done. A new bridge costs less than 2 dollars and can be expertly fitted by someone qualified. Anyway, I am VERY pleased with this purchase and got an excellent price because it was in a damaged outer box. Thanks Amazon. My son is thrilled with his new instrument.

This instrument arrived with no bridge, no tuners, and a broken G string. Absolutely astonishingly bad quality. Amazon was great in processing the return and refund as expected, but I was SHOCKED at how the instrument was shipped. I would NOT recommend this one.

The picture looks it is set up, but acctually, it was not. How do they know “Correct string height, string spacing, and neck relief for accurate finger positions and tone” without setup?
Acctually, when settle the bridge, string space was not even. A foot of the bridge did not fit to the surface of the violin.

If you buy this, you need extra tens or hundreds of dollers to setup by professional luthier.
