I have four cats and they are very particular about what they want. Daves food seems to pass the taste test for the kitties, and the quality of the food is excellent. Thanks Dave.

Bought for older male cat, for high moisture content and good ingredients. He and the other younger cats are just okay with it, and will eat it for sure. Only bad review is every single can was dented, and not just a little. No holes or cuts in the cans, so I kept them. Don’t know where the dents came from, but that was disappointing.

We have two cats as they were leaving their wet kitten food behind I researched for a while and found Dave’s cat food on several online lists for the healthiest cat food on a budget. Our cats tasted it and really like it. Every morning they circle around me as I prepare their food bowl. Basically because you can buy it in a can, similar to a soup size, instead of a regular cat food tin AND add in discounts for a subscription from Amazon it ends up being one of the cheapest options yet several vets online have recommended it for the proper nutrition balance. (If you get it in the regular tin it’s priced about the same as most cat foods). Great for multi cat homes…

I recommend you buy a silicon can topper to seal it when stored in the fridge between feedings. With our two year old average size cats, them eating wet food only in the mornings a can last 4-5 days; larger size cats like a Maine Coon likely will go through it faster. Or if your cats eat solely wet food instead of a wet/dry combo.

I want to start by say I love this product and so do my cats. It is a healthy option at a decent price point. I’ve been getting the 12oz and that lasts my cats about 2 days.

However, on two separate occasions from two separate cans, I have found debris mixed into the food. The first time, and the most concerning piece of debris was a small metal screw. I scooped some food out into my cat’s food dish and I was mixing some warm water into the food when I found it. I contacted Dave’s to let them know. I was not looking for compensation or anything, just wanted to flag the safety issue. As such, I tossed the screw without capturing a picture. I had only one response from them asking for pictures.

Today, several weeks later, I noticed something bright green when I put the food in the bowl mixed into the food. It was a small piece of soft plastic – like a plastic bag. I pulled it out and tossed it as well. I have not contacted Dave’s about this as they were rather unresponsive when I found the screw in the food.

I will probably continue to feed my cats Dave’s if I cannot find a suitable alternative, but I will be diligent about checking the contents before I let my cats eat. I cannot even imagine what the metal screw would have done to my cats.

Dave’s is a quality cat food that’s affordable and I LOVE that they come in large cans as it saves money, is easier to feed multiple cats, and stores easily for the next meal. They do zero marketing and are a smaller company. The ingredients are ones recommended by multiple pet nutritionists and I feel safe giving them to my furbabies. The company responds quickly to emails, I had an issue years ago and the owner replied to me to figure out the issue and fix the problem. One issue these days is my cats are fish lovers and I know it’s not great for them to always eat fish, so they tend to turn their nose up at these sometimes (meanwhile I prefer the smell of these, a lot less stinky than fish!). Also be warned that this turkey has chicken in it as well, so if your cat has an allergy, this is not for you. I do wish they’d make strictly turkey.

It’s been trendy for awhile to proclaim pet food as being “grain-free”, but cats, even more so than dogs, are obligate carnivores and frankly have a hard time DIGESTING CARROTS and other veggies.
I don’t know of any cat if given the choice that would happily chow down on cranberries or zuchinni for that matter. Sweet potatoes, carrots, blueberries cranberries, squash , zucchini, all of these things are in here, yet Dave has the nerve to describe this product as having “no fillers” pffff…huh ?
I’m sure it’s much less expensive and fills the can to add all those veggies rather than filling it with what cats really want and *need*, namely MEAT, and then has the nerve to charge almost 40 bucks for 12 cans ! And it’s not just Dave’s, all the “better” brands shove a bunch of trendy , indigestible and, ahem, cost effective vegetables into a product being sold to the carnivore pets we love. Apparently greed is alive and well in the pet food industry as in most of corporate America.
Luckily I found Triumph Turkey formula that has ONLY meat and not a load of fibrous vegetables and fruit that can actually clog a cat’s digestion, (I’ve had it happen) so beware ! Peas and Lentils, which are delicious for Humans, are very starchy and incompatible for a cat’s digestion. I’m seeing a lot of these supposedly better brands adding these ingredienrts to both their wet and dry cat foods and I can’t help but wonder if they secretly dislike cats and that’s why ?!
Anyhow, I also had the fermenting issue that another reviewer mentioned which no doubt was caused by over-ripe fruit and or vegetables that really shouldn’t be in there to begin with. Buyer beware. Cats need MEAT.
