Guitar strings sure seem to be a touchy subject w/ some players, they love a brand or they hate a brand. Elixr has its fans and its staunch enemies. Well, I try to keep an open mind and recognize that just like a guitar itself, different brands and styles of strings serve a purpose. I happen to love Elixr Polywebs (not Nanowebs). They have a nice bright crisp sound, some may call it nasally, which on an acoustic you may love or hate depending on your guitar and your sound preference. They are slippery and smooth and they LAST FOR-EV-ER! That new string sound lasts for weeks instead of 3 days. I use Polywebs on my electrics too and change them only 1-2 times a year if you can believe that. The cost savings is there and the slippery playability is like no other strings.

El coating anti scratches ayuda muchísimo con el churrito de los dedos y hace que sean mucho más suaves al deslizar, al mismo tiempo las mantiene en mejor condición pese al uso intenso, la verdad es que cuestan más pero duran más y la experiencia de uso lo justifica, especialmente para grabar.

I’ve been using mainly Elixir Nanoweb 10-47 and 11-52 Phosphor Bronze strings for a couple of years on my Levin Goliath guitar and every now and then experimenting with other brands, steel on silk, etc. I never managed to get as good a tone as I hoped for from this Swedish 1962 Levin that’s know for its rich sound.
I’m now trying Elixir 11-52 Bronze Polyweb and the difference is amazing. The tone is rich and mellow which suits my more classical/fingerpicking style of playing and I don’t have to strive as much to get the sort of sound I like. There’s more volume too. Difficult to understand how different sets of metal strings can make such a difference.
I’m not sure yet if I’ll stick with them as the only downside is the bass strings don’t have the crisper, sharper attack of the Nanoweb when played fingerstyle, but sound great nonetheless.
I never bought them before because I was put off by comments about the thickness of the coating, but Polyweb isn’t so different than the Nanowab – the strings wire wrapping is still very noticeable under the fingers.
Worth a try if you are looking for a fuller, richer sound.

I want to be clear: My friend, neighbor and bandmate who was a salesperson at Speir music in the 90s got a test run of the first Elixir strings for electric guitar (originally branded goretex). We were both so impressed by them that it was like the first cavemen viewing fire for the first time. All these years later, I’m still impressed with what these strings have to offer, and now that I am a teacher, they become an absolute must amongst some of my students with a particular chemistry.
Some folks have dry, clammy skin and I have some students that can rust (not tarnish, but rust) a set of strings in just a few weeks. These strings are a godsend for such people, as they can last a few months before the coating starts to wear down. I almost never change my strings, but I keep them very clean and I have an oily skin character. Still, on guitars i rarely play, these are the strings i reach for so that they will stay fresh even if I’m not playing them every day. I don’t think too much about how these strings affect tone. For my students, I get the thickest coating (polyweb, i think). For my own uses, I get whatever I can find and I’ve always been happy. There are other coated strings out there, but this is the OG and I will use them as long as i am alive.

I don’t know if it’s something about my sweat or my skin pH or what, but my fingers have always destroyed regular strings. Replacing them constantly is a pain and gets expensive. These last me 6-8 weeks or more and even then they probably don’t NEED replacing, I just do it because I think it’s probably time. No signs of corrosion and they sound fine.
