Ergodyne Trex 6325 Slip On Ice Traction

I haven’t had a chance to walk over ice with these, but they gradually shift to the inside of my Nike size 10 1/2 US sneakers until they have me risking an ankle roll. I might permanently attach them via tacks or bolts just to get some use out of them, but the fasteners that come with them don’t hold them still, even to a rubber bottomed sneaker. I bought the size that should fit a 10.5 US and it barely goes on the shoe but still doesn’t stay put.

First off these do not keep you from slipping on ice. They also never say that they keep you from slipping on ice. Rather, they increase your traction on ice and you slip a lot less. If you want something that keeps you from slipping on ice, you’ll want something with metal studs or springs or barbs to dig into the ice.

That said, these are exactly as advertised and super helpful. I had to shovel my driveway this morning and these increased my traction on snow a huge amount. I was surprised when I hit an ice patch since I went from near perfect traction to a little bit of slippage. But, re-reading the description, these never claimed to give perfect traction, just to increase traction. And they do that very well. Instead of my foot going out from under me when I hit the ice patch, it just slipped an inch or so.
On snow, these are incredible. They give fantastic traction and they’re far more flexible than your typical metal infused traction device. They stayed on my foot super well while shoveling and walking back and forth and I was able to dig in to toss large shovels full of snow off the driveway.
Also, I stored these in the garage and the rubber was still incredibly flexible even when the temperature was below freezing.

There are some areas for improvement though. Both of mine were labelled L – not sure if that’s for left foot or what but it is confusing. Also, these are harder to get on than your name brand studded traction device. Since they come up so far over your toes it isn’t as easy as stretch and snap on. Even with the extra toe coverage, the toe part of these slid out of place a couple of times – never out of place where I lost traction or even noticed right away but I would look down and they would be partway off my foot.

All that to say, these are great and they will get lots of use for shoveling the driveway. They improve my traction while shoveling a lot and make it go faster since I’m not worried about ending up on my back. They aren’t as good as my studded traction devices but they also don’t tear up my driveway. I’m quite happy with them.

I live in Seattle and hike quite a bit all over the PNW. I have multiple pairs of micro-spikes and yak trax. When I saw these I was very interested – but also skeptical. “Looks like it’s just the bottom of a hiking boot” but I was curious. They totally work! So I have looked at them closely to try and tell how they work. It is indeed just like the bottom of a good hiking boot, but feels grippy. The sticky feel comes from the tread ingrained into the cleats of the sole. If you run your hand over the bottom of your hiking boot, you dont feel any resistance at all (no matter how good they are – I have had dozens of the best brands over the years). So if you run your hand over the bottom of this “traction device” you do feel resistance and grip.

We have a slate patio/walk way and traction devices can cause major damage. You definitely cant wear them indoors.. With this device – no damage at all and I’m going to keep them on my shoes, just because unlike other traction devices that do damage – i would never need to take these off.

OVERALL – In all honestly – I’ll still be wearing my crampons or microspikes up in the mountains in feet of snow and ice, but these have a place in any winter climate wardrobe. I’ll have them on my shoes all winter for around town and around the house and when I’m just in the hills. Much much better than having to take on and off other devices. These are well made and will last many many years. Thick, well made rubber – they dont look or feel cheap at all. Big thumbs up.

Bought for our metal roof and it worked wonders. Way better than just using a work boot. Would highly recommend in that setting.
