I bought this to replace two Penguin 350 filters on my 125 gallon. It works well and is super quiet. The media it comes with is adequate for the job, however i would advise anyone buying this to get additional media, filter pads etc…
The fish seem happier and appear to have more color. The best part about having this filter is not having to clean it that often. Cleaning is easy too, switch off the water valves, unplug it, and carry the whole thing away and wash it out. I would definately buy another one as the quality is outstanding.
I only gave it 4 stars as i was expecting more from the filter after watching/reading reviews. I guess the media it comes with is the bare basics and if you want more from it, better filter pads and additional media might be required. It copes well on a 125 gallon tank, any bigger i would suggest 2 of them.

I’m impressed, it seems very powerful, super quiet, and very effective at removing debris from tank. I’m running it on a 125 gallon tank along with a smaller filter.

Would not order from the seller ever again. Box was damaged upon arrival. Open seal was broken and resealed with packing tape. However, when I purchased this product it claims that I am paying for a “new” product. I should of just bought a refurbished one because there is no difference.
Product came with its own set up hiccups too.
Pump did not pump well for two hours until resented. Definitely not new.

Well worth the extra money. After having used canisters from most of the brands in the US market, including Fluval…….this FX6 is simply a work horse that doesn’t miss a beat…….Works flawless, maintains a perfect prime, filtration is light years better than any filter I’ve used (especially when used with an hour a day circulation pump), and is remarkably quiet despite moving a massive amount of water. I highly recommend this filter to anyone with a 75 gallon aquarium or larger. Works great in my overstocked 125 gallon cichlid tank….water tests consistently remain in perfect ranges despite having a massive biological load in system.

I have a heavily planted 125 gallon tank. It has had a FX5 and a XP5 on it for years. My FX5 started to show some signs of age. The lid was becoming difficult to acquire a seal, the screw tops were snapping, and the hose lines needed replacing. In stead of going that route I simply bought this new unit. I think you will find that many of us aquarists think the FX5 was one of the best filters around outside of a full sump type system.
Comparing the FX5 to the 6 I do not see many differences with the exception of the following:
The aquastop valves are constructed better especially the release mechanism.
The screw tops are easier to tighten
The purge system was much better thought out and they included a tube this time which was a good decision. I wish it were longer though.
The baskets. Now this is the core of the benefit. The baskets sit together better in this unit. This creates a better seal allowing better circulation of the water though your media.
All in all this filter is great for chugging through your water. I know the box says up to 400 gallons but everyone knows you want to over filter your tank. I am running enough filtration for a 1000 gallon tank on mine and it leads to beautiful water and healthy fish. Buy this filter and enjoy your tank all over again.

I bought this filter for my 180 gal freshwater tank. I have never seen my tank so clean and the water so clear. Very easy setup. I had it up and running in 20 minutes. I pulled it out a month after installing it and it wasn’t even dirty . I highly recommend this filter if you have a larger tank with a lot of fish.

Stop working after 1 month, can’t return.
Just called service dept, now I need to take out the pump unit, and call them back. Just sent back the pump unit now I need to buy a reliable filter not fluval for sure.
6/17/2016 received a new pump unit and it leaks. Put it on and off for too many times. Can’t spend any more time and money shipping back and forth with this pump unit. Totally disappointed with this filter and the service center.
Fluval filter is expensive, unreliable and over rated.

Micro bubbles and not great flow from this monster filter. Will be selling as soon as I can afford another Vortech MP40. Thought this would be good to add flow and filtration. It did clear up the water then came the micro bubbles and can’t get rid of them. And great customer service for Fluval Haggen. Sounds like you have a lot of oxygen being added to your water with the sump and MP40. I have another set up the same with a cheaper marineland canister on that tank and it adds more flow and no bubbles. Think this is just an over priced pile of junk that the company doesn’t want to hear about so they pawn it off on everything else in your tank.
I have gone through all forums with this filter and have tried all advise given it just sucks save your money. I will be selling this one in a month or so.
