Great unit. Very quiet. Probably the quietest window AC unit I’ve ever purchased. Keeps my 14×12 room very cold. The only thing I don’t like is that it resets back to 72 degrees and ego mode when you turn it back on. Not a big deal.

I bought this for a bedroom window. As such, noise level was paramount. This unit is reportedly super-quiet. The unit has 3 fan settings, and on the lowest setting, it is REALLY quiet. One might make a case that on the high fan setting, the fan is not as strong as one might like. I found I kept the unit in its “economy” mode and it worked well for me. The unit has a touch panel for all the controls, in addition to a remote (which I don’t use). The control panel does light up when being used, but when not in use, it turns off the lights. Because the indications as to what/where the controls are are printed on the surface of the control panel, that makes it hard to use in the dark — that is, if you get up in the middle of the night to turn it up/down or off, you’re working blind.

It initially starts in “eco” mode by default. I suppose it’s a little annoying that the unit doesn’t remember the settings from the last time it was turned on. Since I don’t need to run it every day, it means a few extra taps on the front panel to get it to the settings I want. It works great keeping the bedroom (20′ x 10′) cool, and again, it’s easy to sleep with this unit on. It also helps cool beyond the bedroom so I can cool my house with two similar sized units. There is also a “swing” mode which in theory redirects the cool air up and down. It’s pretty useless, and doesn’t “sweep” across a large range. Some designer didn’t quite think that part through. The unit also has WiFi connectivity, but I have no need for that, so I didn’t use that at all.

There was some assembly required. Nothing too difficult, though the instructions are rather poor in spots. There is a bar which goes across the top which one must screw on, and then the side accordion panels must be installed on the unit. Once that’s done, it’s pretty much like installing any other window air conditioner. Considering the age of the unit this was replacing, I’m sure it’s more energy efficient.

I liked the unit so much, I ordered another one when they became available. With the wicked heat this summer, these were hard to come by. Unfortunately, the second unit came with a damaged front panel. Half the touch buttons didn’t work, so one couldn’t control it. It did respond to the remote, so I did use the remote to get it to work. Additionally, there was something grinding on / in the fan so it sounded like there was sand in it. However, it was so loud, one couldn’t watch TV in the same room with it. It was a major disappointment. It had to go back.

Amazon was great regarding the return. They offered to give me a partial refund if I kept the unit, but considering all the issues and the racket it made when operating, I declined that. The box the unit came in was two pieces: a bottom piece and a second piece which was 4 sides and a top, and the two pieces were held together with plastic straps wrapped around the whole thing, so there was no way to “put it back in the box” for return. The Amazon rep I worked with to return the unit (via chat window) was great. She walked me through the return process. I had to use a special shipper to return it as it was obviously large and had no box. I needed to fill out the shipper’s forms to set up a pickup. The Amazon rep emailed me a link to the forms, and walked me through filling it out. It was super easy. Then, I just disassembled what I had assembled, and used packing tape to attach the pieces to the unit. A few days later, the shipper came and took it away. Good customer service, Amazon. Thanks.

While the second unit was a disappointment, I intend to get another one of these units early next summer before the summer rush puts them out of stock because when these units are working properly, they’re great.

I am amending my review of this product to one star. Here’s why–

I purchased this air conditioner a year and a half ago. The AC unit was fine, everything worked and, as advertised, it was very quiet. So this year, I purchased a second unit, the exact same 10,000btu Gallery model. I got it direct from the manufacturer because some had complained that Amazon’s exchange/refunds were difficult, so I figured I’d deal directly with the manufacturer. After installing the new unit in a window, my first discovery was that they made the remote control for it more cheaply/poorly than the model from a year before …and it didn’t work. I doesn’t make proper contact with the battery but, unlike the original remote that used a AAA battery, these contacts are now in a very thin, one-piece plastic sleeve that uses watch-style battery so the contacts aren’t accessible. Then, when I turned the unit on, it made a loud, annoying, intermittent vibrating noise, even on the lowest fan setting. Despite running the unit for a while, the loud vibration/rattling has continued. I sounds like the fan is loose. Since I own another unit, I know that this noise is not normal and my entire reason for buying this air conditioner was that it was advertised as (and earlier version was) quiet. So my wife and I attempted to get it fixed or replaced. We’ve spent a full day (over 8 hours) on the phone or internet with Frigidaire (which is now owned by Electrolux) and they are stone-walling us and giving us the run-around. This includes endless time on hold, being passed from department to department, “This must be the fault of the shipper, so you should contact them”, everything imaginable. So, be warned, if you buy anything from Frigidaire, you may or may not get a working machine and they don’t guarantee their products and will seek to screw you over. I am this close to flinging it off a cliff and getting an AC unit from another manufacturer. I will never buy a Frigidaire or Electrolux appliance again.

Here’s my old review for the first unit …but you may or may not get one like this and, if it’s not working correctly, you’re screwed–

It’s a quiet air conditioner when it’s on low fan “eco” mode …and it does a good job of cooling down a big room. As other commenters stated, the controls on the machine itself are hard to use as they are white on white and only light up when you touch or change them. The remote is much easier to use, so that’s how I control it. My only complaint is that it’s kinda cheaply built. The flanges that fit into a window (to seal it off) are made entirely of plastic and are too shallow to get a good seal without putting screws in your window frame. My old air conditioner had metal edges around the flanges that set more snugly and deeply into the window channels. There’s also a lot of other plastic parts on this machine such that I question its longevity. But it’s quiet and more efficient than older air conditioners.

I replaced a 19 year old Fridgidaire 12,000 BTU unit with this 10,000 BTU unit. I can’t believe how quiet it is and how good it works. Sometimes I’m not even sure that it’s on until I put my hand in front of it. No more talking loud or turning up the TV volume !!!
I imagine that it will pay for itself in the next year or three because of the high efficiency rating.
The Wi-Fi app is excellent. Easy to hook up. Nice to be able to check the room temperature while the unit is off. Also nice to be able to turn it on/off and adjust the temperature if desired.
    A buddy also bought one.
I would not hesitate to buy another or recommend it to someone.
