Four Eyes –
i was in the market for a new watch for my birthday and the analogue hands on this one immediately caught my eye. i like a nice chunky watch and this definitely hits that mark and it’s discreet enough that nobody knows it’s a smart watch. i gotta wait until the spring and summer months to put the solar charging through its paces but other than that i’m in love with the watch and all it can do. the product pictures online also undersell how blue this watch is in real life but it’s a very nice blue. definitely recommend if you want a watch that’s got some solid battery and a rugged exterior

This was a gift for my best friend so I cannot speak of its full features. But what I do know it is pretty much the same as mine (Instinct 2 Solar 45mm) except it has analog hands that glow in the dark. My buddy really likes that feature. The GPS is as accurate as mine and battery life is also on par. Honestly I think it is the same watch really except for the face. He has all the same features that mine does. He really likes his watch and has had it about 9 months as this was a Birthday gift. No problems with it at all. Works great!

Great watch and amazing battery life. I’ve had the Garmin Instinct, 2, and Crossover. Garmin makes the best watches.

Nice smart watch, however if you are not working outside or you are not in the sun for at least 8 hours per day day, the solar charging function is completely useless. I work outside and indoors, and I had to still charge the witch via the cable every week.
Additionally, if you are expecting to see specific details, then you better not use reading glasses or you wont be able to read the small details on this small little screen.
Simuo –
This is (almost) the perfect watch I need. I throw my other watches (iWatch 8, Garmin 945, Casio Oceanus, Luminox and Rolex GMT II) to drawer and wear this one 100%.
For the background. I am a mid-age male, frequent business traveler, I need to hit gym/run regularly to maintain my health and energy. I am reviewing this watch from my perspective.
PROS:
– READS TIME IN ALL SITUATIONS: This is a fundamental function that disqualifies almost all smart watches. I can tell the time indoor, and out door under direct sunlight, and in a very steep angle (yes I frequently need to glance my watch in the meetings. I don’t want to raise my wrist and hint my customer that I want them to leave, I can read the time even if the angle of the watch face is 10 degree to my eye (see attached picture). OLED (Apple) watch is bright and you can read under direct sunshine, but it shuts off the screen in the night, and wait to read the battery comment. Other LCD (Garmin 945) smart watch couldn’t read time in all angle/sun lighting condition.
– NIGH TIME PERFORMANCE: This watch glows in the night. Yes it’s a reliable technology for 80 years but hey it works. It’s 3am and my bedroom is completely darkness, yet watch with physical hands still glow and I can read the time.
– BATTERY PERFORMANCE: It’s solid 28 days without charge, without solar. When I travel, I already have enough things to do and I hate to need to charge my watch from time to time. Charging is easy if I work in office daily (and put a charger stand on my desk), but it’s a problem when I travel. I love to have one battery less to maintain charge with.
– GPS/SPORT FEATURE: It still work as a full functional sport smart watch. It logs hearbeat at all time. It tracks my run with GPS, and it pairs with my sensor pod that analyze my run. It has everything a typical smart watch does.
CONS:
– THE FONT IS TOO SMALL: Whoever designed this watch is probably 30years old with sharp eyesight. There is a reason Rolex Day-Date has very readable date and magnifying glass lens for day. Dear Garmin, we are old, please don’t make the font unnecessarily small
– 2ND TIME ZONE IS NOT 24hr format: Whoever designed this watch doesn’t really use the 2nd time zone. When it shows SFO 5:45, who knows its 5am or 5pm? I don’t need the ’45’ of the ‘5:45’ because the time zone is almost always 1hr resolution (there is 30 min time zone but very unpopular). What it really should display is “SFO 17” or “SFO 5pm”. Dear Garmin, this is really, really simple and fundamental.
– NOT VERY DRESSY (nitpicking): The watch is perfect sized (45mm wide) but a bit too thick (16mm). I have trouble fitting a sleeve in. I am willing to pay 2x or 3x price if it’s lowered to 13mm, and made with premium material and sporty look (like Rolex GMT, Sea Dweller), and I can wear it for the occasion when I need to wear Rolex.
OVERALL: This is a very, very good watch and it’s almost perfect. It has every functions I need with minor imperfection. I believe hybrid watch is a very good sweetspot

I tried something new with this one. I am a not so girly very posh sustainable woman so I prefer fine metals and rocks—I’m a gold and platinum, ruby kind of gal. So the solar feature is cool, battery life is lovely, has cool features but just doesn’t hit for me. When I wear it when I shower it makes my skin raw. The heart rate feature has no way to change the sound and constantly goes off, I want to know but damn. It’s hella alarming. I could write an essay here so, I wish I’d gone with another model of Garmin, is all.

The system layout and resolution were great but the solar charging part is questionable. I already had an apple watch and wanted to try something different but found it basically the same functionality but with a less impressive display. I returned mine; however, feel it would be more durable and lasting than an apple watch…if that helps. cheers.

Been eyeing this a while, the Prime Day slashed its price. Easy setup thanks to Garmin’s common sense. Same charger as most of their lineup as well. While the screen is not as vivid or vibrant, the 30 Day Battery Life being bolstered by the sun now and then is an amazing thing. Tracks a lot of metrics, so yo can adjust all you want. I limited mine to steps, body battery, sleep and the other basics. A great form factor if you don’t mind that it’s a bit chonky compared to the ‘average’ smartwatch.
The minute/hour hands moving to let you see might be odd but it’ll grow on you. It’s almost intuitive. The compass will need calibration but if you’re using it, that’s something you know to do.
If you like the Instinct or the other basic Garmin stuff, this is one I can recommend.
