The reason I did not give it 5 stars, is because it does have a bit of a smell and I have to reapply a lot more to keep my tan on… Nothing horrible, however when I see a 5 star rating, I think “perfect”, without any defects. I have used more expensive tanning products that are not as great as this. As a matter of fact, I haven’t found one that is better than this, (yet). I’m sure there is a better product though. But as long as this stuff is being sold at this price, I will continue to use faithfully without shopping around. I’m very pale, (if I red hair I would be a ginger) lol. I have freckles, blue eyes, the whole pale girl package! The only thing I do not have is light colored hair. I have dark hair, so I really need some color on me! I have pretty much made a career out of trying tanning products. Very few can I actually use without being turned orange. This does not turn me orange. It is a subtle, yet darkish, nice brown color. Also another product I like is a cheapy sold at Walmart. It’s a hemp glow lotion. (Takes a week for the full color). I like to mix the two together and use them. I actually mix them with even amounts and apply. I have used the sun labs alone, its just because im so pale, if I use it alone in one step, I’m like 20x darker in a few minutes, vs mixing it with other moisturizers and taking a few days to a week to get full color. I just don’t like stepping out and people immediately knowing im fake LOL. Not to mention, I make less mistakes if I do just a tad of color at a time. Gives you room to play with, and every day you can correct small mistakes from the day before, as you slowly get darker. Just my 2 cents on this product anyway 🙂

Make a habit of shaving daily, exfoliating, and moisturizing. I know this sounds like a lot of work, and it is! But, when you use self tanners, you have to take the extra time to take care of and prep your skin so that it looks great. 9 times out of ten, errors from self tanners are made just from not having properly hydrated and smooth skin. When you have dry patches, it causes the lotion to absorb at different rates and such which therefore causes uneven color. Not much you can do about streaks, unless you tan slowly (by mixing, or using a daily glow lotion which takes several days). With those, you can easily correct small mistakes the day after and its very unlikely that you’ll miss the same areas several days in a row. I have never had a streak after a few days of tanning slower, vs using a full strength tanner in one sitting. The worst thing that has happened to me in trying tanning products, is that I have ended up orange, but at least my tan was even and smooth! LOL! Nothings worse than orange, AND streaky.
I suggest trying this anyway. I used the medium shade. It is dark enough for me because im so pale. Another mistake people make is using one that is too dark for them. Anytime I go even a tad to dark for my skin tone, I end up a rusty color 🙁 Just another thing to keep in mind.

I have fair/light olive toned skin and I can get a bit sickly looking in the pale winter months with no sun kiss on my face. I like to stay away from tanning beds if I can so I am always on the look out for a good sunless tanner for color and convenience. In the past I have settled for Jergen’s Natural Glow and Nivea Sunkissed Radiant Lotion, both of which are nice products that offer a very subtle color, but I wanted more. I recently tried the Bare Minerals Faux Tan Body lotion and was really impressed with it – natural brown color (not too gold, definitely not orange), buildable color, bronze tinted lotion so you can see where you apply it and get an instant bronze boost, no streaks, long lasting… I recently ran out of my Faux Tan Body (which I was also using on my face with no problems) and I didn’t want to spend another $30 for 6oz – 6oz doesn’t last long when applying to your whole body 2/3x a week. I began to search on Amazon for an alternative and came across this one which had excellent reviews.
Upon receiving Sun Laboratories product I was surprised to notice that it seems to be almost the exact same product as the Bare Minerals Faux Tan Body lotion. It looks the same, smells the same, feels the same, and applies the same. Natural bronze color – not orange. Instant tan color which allows you to see where you apply the lotion. Long lasting. Pleasant fragrance. Even application. Not sticky, slimy, or greasy – really dries and soaks in. It’s great.
Both products have the same scent, and I find it pleasing. It doesn’t smell like typical self tanning lotion, it has a sort of “amaretto” scent, sort of a subtle almond/cherry smell. It does develop a slight “tan” smell later on but it is not at all overpowering, a quick rinse down in the shower and the scent goes right away – color will stay.
I am so happy I found this product. It is, to me, nearly the exact same as my previously loved Faux Tan Body at a fraction of the price! I can now afford to maintain my tan and keep my sunless tanner in stock no matter how fast I go through it.
One TIP I can offer: If you have dry skin in the winter it might be beneficial to moisturize with a more hydrating lotion before you apply this, the tanning product itself is not very moisturizing alone and I find that using a body butter first helps the tanning lotion apply more smoothly and easily. Exfoliate, moisturize, then apply the tanning lotion.
I apply this product to my face also and I have found that the best, most natural way of doing this is to mix a little bit of tanning lotion with my daily facial moisturizer, I use a small plastic cosmetic spatula and apply a bit of each product to the back of my hand, mix together, then apply. It gives you a gentle bronze glow without looking too harsh.
I will be using this product for a very long time to maintain a subtle winter glow, very pleased! Would recommend!

This is the best self tanner I’ve ever used. This tanner gave me a natural golden colour after one application, with no orange hues. I’ve used some more expensive products, and some of them seemed to not “absorb”/”take” to certain areas (ex. my ankles, chest), but I didn’t have this issue with Sunlabs. This tanner’s initial colour isn’t overwhelming, either. Also, the smell of the lotion is amazing (I want to say almond extract? Edit: It’s cherry-almond – yum!), and no weird DHA/tanner smell.
Colour lasts and is really easy to apply. Will definitely be my go-to tanner from now on.

I have been issuing this product for 2 weeks now and I have to say that it is actually pretty great. This was my first time using a self tanner and I thought it would be more complicated than it actually is. The color is perfect and there is not patching. Also the best thing of all is that it does not look orange. All in all such and easy to use and great product.
