So far this product as served me well. Bought well over a year ago it just works. My Macbook Pro Time Machine backups are on schedule and fast, the disk has not failed me and always works when connected. Absolutely satisfied.

This drive is completely amazing. It is absolutely the fastest portable SSD money can by right now. To get the full benefit you have to use a computer that has enough bus throuput to push the drive to its limit. Right now my MacBook Pro is the only thing that can get the full speed from this drive.

Just to give people context on how fast this drive is. I did a complete backup of my MacBook Pro to this drive 750 GB’s of data in only 20 minutes. The drive really warm during that time, but I wouldn’t say that it was hot like some of the other drives I have used like this. The large metal casing helps with getting that heat pulled away so that performance continues to be top notch for the entire transfer.

It’s a bit heavier than I imagined but its small enough to be portable in your bag.

This is a test on a Dell XPS 17 from 2021. Device connected to a thunderbolt port… Very frequent disconnections. My power scheme is set to maximum performance, the disk is connected to thunderbolt ports and the transfer speed (which is tens of MB/s) drops to zero. And it stays at zero for minutes (second screenshot was done after 10 minutes of waiting – notice the speed is not even zero :D)… then the drive disconnects. I have to say I did thought about trowing it to garbage a few times.

    Other than that it’s amazing.

Great drive for use with MacBook Pro (2016/2017). You’ll gain most benefit with the 2017 model (due to updated Kaby Lake architecture integrating USB 3 / Thunderbolt right into the core chipset).
Super easy to use – take out of the box and plug in (pre-formatted for Mac).
Performance lives up to hype – I’m getting 770MB/s read and 870MB/s write (note that 2017 internal drive is insane – nearly 3x as fast as this).

So in summary, if you need raw speed and mass storage for 4K video production – spend $1500 (upgrade) and get the internal Mac drive.
If you need fast storage (for running virtual machines, photo editing, 1080p video editing), save a bunch and get the Glyph.

If consider using a usb 3.1 cable similar to the one that comes with Samsung T5. The USB cables sent with these devices have connectivity issues. Many of. Another manufacturer used a similar cable. Neither of them work very well.

I have several macs, including new Mac Studio. This drive doesn’t work. Takes forever to “eject” won’t allow files that are on my macs to be written to drive giving me an “some files can’t be written” error so won’t copy anything in folder.

Tried erasing drive and get a “erase process has failed”

Clearly a crap drive. Useless. And was very expensive.

The Glyph Atom Raid SSD 4TB external hard drive is fabulous. As a record producer, audio engineer and music video producer I’ve always needed extremely reliable external hard drives, especially when I’m needed to record in another studio, or shoot video on location. These drives are excellent and I’m never worried about them. These are consistently great drives and they transfer fast. This past week I was recording in a studio where Areatha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Ringo Starr and Bruce Hornsby had recorded… legendary studio. I asked them what HDs are you using to back up 100+ recorded tracks at 96K and above for just one song? Without hesitation the producer said bring a Glyph Atom Raid SSD drive. Professions need reliable tools to save and backup clients projects and don’t mess around. Highly recommended!

Glyph Tech are an amazing bunch of humans with great values. I had a small issue reformatting the Glyph Atom 1GB for my Microsoft SurfacePro. I called Glyph (it was Friday business hours). I got a human being within 3 minutes. More to the point, he knew what he was talking about and solved my problem within 5 minutes, waited while I made certain everything was cool and was exceptionally competent and pleasant. It’s amazing these days to be able to call for support and get anything more than a robot or an offshore call answering company who 9 times out of 10 cannot solve anything other than completely scripted problems.

By the way the 1GB Glyph Atom is fast, rugged, good looking and a great solid state drive.

I have used their standard HDD’s for high performance use in my sound recording studio for years (a niche they have managed to carve out for themselves). They last longer and perform better than the generic drives. It’s a New York company … everything is assembled and tested in NY. Glyph designs are built to manage the heat better and therefore perform better and last longer. They offer a 2yr warranty. But what’s amazing is they warranty your data too – that is completely unheard of and exceptionally valuable since third party data recovery companies charge an arm and a leg – and in addition Glyph will ship out a replacement while they fix yours. And in the one instance where I have used them to data recover, it actually worked and I got my data back! When a LaCie drive of mine failed, data recovery was over $3,000 at an independent service and LaCie offered no support.

I have to say we need more companies like Glyph. Even though they may charge a little more than the competition, I assure you the service, when you need it, is more than worth that premium. Have you ever lost data? It’s devastating. Most people never consider it.
