GMKtec G3 is a mid-range mini PC. The size is bigger than previous generation mini pc but GMKtec used this to improve noise level.
The provided BIOS is very extensive full of options to play with, but the default is great for most people.
The 2 important settings in BIOS are: TDP can be change between 8W, 10W or 15W. Fan behavior and curve can be customized using the + and – key.
I booted to both Win 11 and Zorin OS 17 and everything worked out of the box.

    Pros:
    – Lightweight and good build quality, no rattle
    – N100 provides good performance for daily computing needs. You can play 2D and light 3D games like Hollow Knight, Hades, TMNT, perfectly.
    – Wifi card model is Realtek 8852BE Wifi 6 and works out of the box with Linux
    – Super easy to upgrade ram DDR4 3200Mhz and nvme M.2 2280. It also has an extra slot of M.2 2242 slot.
    – Fan noise is very good, only audible in quite room during load. This is much better than GMKtec Nucbox 5 N5105 with high pitch fan noise.

    Cons:
    – No USB-C port: with many cables and chargers using USB-C, lacking USB-C port is a minus
    – Front USB ports feel slightly loose when you plug something in (mouse, usb stick, etc.). They work but it feels like I might break it.

Overall, I’m impressed with this device from GMKtec, it is a solid upgrade from GMKtec Nucbox5 I had for 2 years and still running daily.

I got this to use as a stand-in for PC’s in my business which go down. However, they work so well (and tested so well) that I decided to replace my big PC’s with this unit.

    PROS
FAST – Like, I can’t believe it fast. There are some small delays in big big activities, but the benchmarks are amazing.

    PROS
Size, obviously. These things are small, take no space and won’t break a sweat if you’re hauling them up six flights of stairs. Size doesn’t hurt the speed or cooling abilities. Unit never got warm testing in my office under load.

    CONS
I wish it was USB powered is probably the biggest one. Most of our laptops are now USB-C powered, and I would love it if this followed suit. I am not fond of proprietary power units you must special order if they go out. I’d much rather be able to port a USB-C cable over to the unit.

    OVERALL
Great machine, I wouldn’t try to game off of it, but it has handled excel files, everything browser, watches movies just fine – looks to really be a well put together unit. I will report back after the Missouri summer gets here.

I got the Titanium Grey G3 (8+256GB) a few days ago. I connected a wired keyboard and mouse, ethernet cable to my router, and the included HDMI cable to my 4K monitor, plus the power adapter. It booted up fine and went into the Windows 11 setup (pre-installed) and that went quick and I verified windows was activated!

The built-in Intel graphics GPU worked fine at 4K-60Hz HDMI to my monitor automatically. Running various tests I found the 256GB Lexar SSD was getting about 1700MB/s which is expected with it running at PCI 3.0×2. CPU speed was fine for a low end model – windows 11 usage was good and not sluggish for web browsing and document editing. I even installed and tested video encoding with handbrake app and using the intel gpu’s QSV encoder I got very fast x264 and x265 encode speeds! So I was amazed by the performance overall for such a low price and small form factor.

I also tested the USB port speeds and again I was amazed since they were operating at USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gb/s speed, though the documentation only indicated it was 5GB/s speed! My Samsung T7 portable USB 3.2 Gen 2 SSD device was able to reach its max read/write speeds about 1000MB/s (tested with CrystalDiskMark app) so I was very impressed!

I couldn’t find any documentation on the power button useage. Pressing it once does turn on the mini PC and it lights up green. In the BIOS pressing it will turn it off. In Windows under control panel power settings it defaults to putting the pc in sleep mode but it can be set to shutdown instead. In sleep mode the power button green light will slowly flash.

In summary I was very impressed by this G3 model and haven’t even felt the need to upgrade the internal RAM stick to 16GB or 32GB since I haven’t noted any sluggishness in windows 11 with 8GB RAM even though the Intel GPU uses some of the RAM for the video buffer. Same with the internal SSD, 256GB is plenty for me, since I have almost 200GB free on it after the Win11 OS and apps. I could add an extra internal tiny sata3 SSD drive in the future for extra data storage up to 2GB+ too as needed.
