The first air cleaner I bought was also a Honeywell, a Quiet Clean. At the time my allergies were so bad b/c of some mold somewhere in the vicinity of my house that every time it rained I had to lay on the couch with a wet rag over my face the next day. The Quiet Clean did the trick for my main living area within days. I was frankly shocked at how well it worked. Later I bought an air cleaner that had five stages (not Honeywell), pre-filter, odor filter, HEPA, electrostatic, and UV. For whatever reason it made my allergies a lot worse. I scrapped that cleaner and bought this one when I moved to my new house b/c I need to clean a large room. It’s great. The air is clean and soft. It cleans the smoke smell from my house within a couple hours of someone smoking here. The unit itself is a little more aesthetically pleasing compared to the Quiet Clean. Honeywell’s electrostatic filters are so easy to clean and the units run very quietly which also makes them great for using as fans and for moving air around so it isn’t stagnate.

My only gripe is that I waited so long to get one of these. Three stars for myself on that one.
I’ve got dogs. Two nasty, lovable dogs who shed their body weight in hair and dander approximately every twenty minutes. So my house, despite my best efforts, is pretty dusty all the time. Throw that in with pollen season, and it’s just hard to breathe sometimes. Every night, from about February to May, for as long as I can remember, I have to sleep sitting up if I want to get any sleep at all. This is no way to go through life, but all the pills and NyQuils and whatever else haven’t helped me a bit, so I was resigned to only getting seven months of decent sleep every year. Then I bought this, and it’s changed everything for the better.
Firstly, and most obviously: I can breathe at night. And not just the one-nostril-works-and-I’m-glad-to-have-that-much that I might have lucked out and gotten every once in a while before, but full-on two nostrils like nature intended breathing. It’s those little things that you take for granted that you miss the most when they’re gone. When I look at the filters and see just how much stankum this thing is catching, that I had been inhaling before, I get a little ill. Just being able to breathe at night is worth the price of admission. But that’s not all.
Everything in the bedroom isn’t covered with an inch of dust after two days anymore. Not that anyone ever sees the bedroom but my wife and I, but still. Not much will make you think you’re reliving the Dust Bowl like a film of dust over everything in sight, all the time. This has helped tremendously. It won’t save you from ever having to dust again, but it won’t have to be an everyday task anymore. So that’s been nice.
I keep it in the bedroom and it does a really good job in there, and it’s a decent-sized room, roughly 18×20 with ten-foot ceilings. With the ceiling fan running as well, it seems like all the air gets circulated through rather than just having a pocket of clean air right around the air cleaner. With it running at night, it’s sort of a white noise machine too – not too loud, but loud enough to drown out little noises. And that’s running in “normal” mode, setting #2. The “sleep” setting, #1, doesn’t seem to be quite enough in my bedroom.
When I first got it, for the first week or so, it emitted a pretty strong ozone smell when it was running. That was pretty annoying, but it stopped doing that soon enough, and now the air is delightfully odor-free. And that’s without using the included charcoal odor-eliminating filter, which you might use if you had a cat or were in the cheese-making business or something. I don’t know. I wish I could get another one of these and run it in the rest of the house, but the floorplan is open and there’s just too much air volume for one of these to work out there. But I’m still pleased with its performance in the bedroom (that’s what she said) and highly recommend it.

I use this everyday in my bedroom and i notice the difference very quickly – the air smells…. sanitized like how it smells when i walk into my Allergy doc’s office who has a different air cleaner running all day in their lobby. It is relatively quiet – on the lowest setting it gives off a gentle hum and the LED lights are a useful touch under bedside lighting when finding controls and features. The great thing about this brand is the permanent filter and the ease of cleaning. Overall it looks good, is not very tall and is energy star rated for all day use. So far the oscillating function works although I’ve noticed it get “sticky” after about a week or two – leading to that repetitive “creaking” albeit quiet creak at that one spot on the tower base where it rotates. It comes and goes and is inherent with a model like this where the weight of the fan and pivot base is heavier on the top than what the bottom supports – note this is how my first Honeywell allergy-reducer-model-tower started to give up the ghost. The LED lights are bright when the room lights are off. When oscillating -2 lights are as bright as a night light – I’ve considered throwing a dark sock over them to shield their brightness whenever I find myself tossing in bed with eyes wide open. Out of the box comes (2) pre-filters – the first is their standard filter and the second is an odor filter. If your’s was anything like mine – toss the 1st one because it smelt awful – it had that chemical smell to it – as if the plastic fumigated the filter while it was still in the box, baking away in some Amazon warehouse during record heat. I almost returned this product due to the smell – no matter how long I thought venting the filter would fix it – it did not. The second pre-filter however after a few hours – no problems – works like a charm. Finally – note that the (1) long permanent filter you clean – t’s long – too long to soak / rinse in my sink that i had to use my bathtub. Past models I’ve used had (2) permanent filters divided across the length of the fan. Lastly there is a weight penalty to this model – careful not to drop it or tip it lest it pinches the base and gives you creaks.
Overall – great investment – looking forward to it lasting 5yrs or more.
